Established since 1980, Lions Home For The Elders is one of Singapore’s leading eldercare service providers in the community. Our two nursing homes are located at Bishan and Bedok South, with the capacity to house 384 residents. Community Guidelines:

𝗔 𝗣𝗮𝘄-𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗔𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗼𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗝𝗼𝘆 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗙𝘂𝗿𝗿𝘆 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀! 🐶

What a wonderful time it was to have Therapy Dogs Singapore (TDS) visit and bond with our residents on Thursday, 28 August!

The affectionate therapy dogs and their dedicated volunteers brightened a cloudy afternoon with joy and comfort. 🌤️ Resident Mdm Shang Fei shared: “I was so happy when I got to pat the dog!”

Spending time with dogs uplifts moods and fosters connection. As TDS volunteer Katherine reflected: “It was heartwarming to see the residents enjoying the animal-assisted activities. Dogs have an incredible way of bringing love and joy into people’s lives - often in ways that words can’t fully capture. Many sense when someone is sad or unwell and respond with gentle comfort.”

She added, “Our volunteers also enjoyed the session, sharing the love and joy their dogs bring to people around them. We hope that the session with TDS provided companionship, warmth, and comfort to the residents at Lions Home For The Elders!”

𝗔 𝗗𝗼𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻-𝗜𝗻-𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗪𝗮𝗿𝗺𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 😋

We were most delighted to receive a donation of 25 kilograms of Grouper fish from Mr Zel Poh of Deep Sea Gourmet Pte Ltd on 14 August. The Grouper was served to residents on all floors as part of our weekly Family Meal, when residents are encouraged to dine together.

Our kitchen team lovingly prepared the fish in two mouthwatering styles: Sweet & Sour and Black Pepper. The combination of flavours was an absolute delight with our residents, who praised both the taste of the dish and the generosity of the donation.

A heartfelt thank you to Mr Zel Poh and Deep Sea Gourmet Pte Ltd for this meaningful gift, and to our dedicated kitchen staff for turning the generosity into a truly memorable meal. 💙

𝗕𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗪𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲 – 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗳𝗳’𝘀 𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 ❤️

On 13 August, Lions Home For The Elders held our second Mental Wellbeing Talk at Bishan Home, as part of the Workplace Outreach Wellness (WOW) programme — curated by the Health Promotion Board, Singapore (HPB) and managed by the Singapore National Employers Federation (SNEF). The WOW programme empowers employees to adopt healthier lifestyles by equipping them with both knowledge and practical skills, aiming to create a healthier, productive, and more engaged workforce.

During the session, Mental Health Specialist Ms Joan Rouen guided our staff through understanding stress, its causes, and simple ways to manage it. Participants also tried out mindfulness exercises, taking a refreshing break from their busy schedules to relax both mind and body.

The talk was warmly received by our staff, not only teaching them to recognise signs of stress in themselves and their colleagues, but also imparting to them useful strategies to support mental wellbeing at work and beyond.

𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝟰𝟱 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 💡❤️

As we reach our 45th Anniversary, Lions Home For The Elders strives to not only be a nursing home, but at the forefront of innovation in elderly care. We have already implemented numerous technologies at our homes to care for our residents, and are always in the process of taking our services to new heights.

Notable among our implemented technologies is our social robot, Dexie, who has been a valuable presence in our homes since her introduction in 2022.

Dexie engages our residents in a variety of activities such as conducting group exercises, hosting Bingo sessions, and even singing karaoke. Additionally, she is capable of holding conversations in English, Mandarin, Malay, and Tamil with residents who may feel lonely or exhibit behavioural issues, helping to reduce their anxiety and agitation.

Most importantly, Dexie works hand-in-hand with our staff — running activities that keep residents engaged, while freeing our team to focus on other essential tasks in the wards.

𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 🇸🇬 🦁

Our deepest thanks to the Ministry of National Development (MND) for having 8 of our residents and 10 of our staff over for a wonderful morning on 4 August!

The residents got to enjoy fun games, making connections with the MND staff, and even viewed a wonderful performance by preschoolers from MND Kinderland. We were also touched by the thoughtful speech given by MND’s Permanent Secretary Mr Loh Ngai Seng, in which he wished the seniors of Singapore, including our residents at Lions Home For The Elders, many wonderful golden years ahead.

Thank you to MND for inviting us over once again and organising a wonderful time for our residents and staff!

𝗔 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗳𝗲𝗹𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗮𝘆 6️⃣0️⃣

We extend our deepest appreciation to Lions Club of Singapore (LCS) Goodlink for their truly generous donation to our residents on 31 July, which included 500 kilograms of rice, 10 cartons of oil, 8 cartons of Ensure milk, along with women’s pyjamas.

The LCS Goodlink team, our Chairman PDG Steven Seah, his wife PDG Lesa Gan, along with 1st Vice District Governor (VDG) Lion Lawrence Sew and 2nd VDG Lion Tay Jia Ming, held a fun-filled afternoon for our residents complete with Karaoke and a bingo session with prizes. With National Day just around the corner, LCS Goodlink also donated a cake to our residents emblazoned with the nation’s flag, along with generous servings of Tau Huay for all.

Our thanks to LCS Goodlink, Chairman PDG Steven Seah, PDG Lesa Gan, 1st VDG Lawrence Sew and 2nd VDG Tay Jia Ming, for their visit and contribution, along with bringing a day of joy to our residents.

In time for Singapore’s 60th Birthday, the beautifully designed tablecloths from our special collaboration with Habitat for Humanity Singapore, SG60 Love Covers All, arrived at Lions Home For The Elders Bishan Home on 30 July.

The tablecloths brightened up our weekly Kopitiam session, and will serve as poignant reminders of our residents’ experiences and the many things which make us uniquely Singaporean.

Our deep gratitude to Habitat for Humanity Singapore for involving us in this wonderful campaign, and providing these treasured gifts to our residents!

In this issue of Golden Times, Lions Home For The Elders is proud to usher in our 45th Anniversary by celebrating the bonds which connect us in Lions Home For The Elders, the achievements of our staff, and the partnerships we have forged.

• At our recent Family Day events, we invited our residents’ next-of-kin to our Bishan and Bedok homes for a time of bonding and celebration.
• We congratulate the graduations of our staff members from their courses of study.
• In promoting health awareness among our own staff and the community, we took part in the Health and Wellness Carnival with Filos Active Ageing Centre, and held a Hand Hygiene Day for our staff.
• We share on noteworthy visits, connections made with like-minded partners, heartfelt contributions, and cheerful occasions for our residents.
• We also partnered with Habitat for Humanity Singapore in their new campaign SG60 Love Covers All.

𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗳𝗳, 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗲 🤝 ❤️

On 10 July, Lions Home For The Elders celebrated a milestone - the graduations of 11 of our Nursing Aides and Healthcare Assistants who received the Institute of Technical Education Skills Certificate in Health Care (Home Care), 8 of whom received distinctions!

This event was a heartfelt tribute to our staff’s unwavering determination and dedication to eldercare, showcasing their relentless pursuit of skill improvement every day.

We were honoured to have our CEO, Ms Doreen Lye, Director of Nursing, Ms Patsy Pang, and Senior Clinical Educator, Ms Monica Jayarani, who delivered inspiring speeches that recognised the hard work of our graduates and encouraged them to continue reaching new heights.

A short video chronicling our staff members' inspiring journeys brought cheers and laughter from all present. Following this, CEO Doreen Lye presented the graduation certificates to each staff member with pride.

In a joyful conclusion, the graduating staff members sang together in perfect harmony, filling the room with applause and celebration.

Once again, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to all staff who committed themselves to completing this course with outstanding success. We are truly proud of you!
