Sometimes, the wins are quiet. Sometimes, they are deeply life-changing. In this case, a patient with complex neuro-vestibular challenges experienced a profound improvement in quality of life.

I see many incredible transformations at work, but this one holds special meaning as it echoes the very roots of chiropractic - back in 1895, when DD Palmer adjusted Harvey Lillard, the unexpected restoration of his hearing marked the birth of our profession.

Today, over a century later, we continue to witness the body’s innate ability to heal when inference is removed!

Thank you, , for your support in bringing this case to publication!

With a grateful (and heavy 😭) heart we bid farewell to Annie today ❀️

Annie has been more than a superstar assistant since my very first day at Vitality. I can’t be more thankful for the incredible support and encouragement she has given me in the last 2 years. Her dedication and her big heart, always going above and beyond for the people around her have made a significant impact on my work and I’m truly fortunate to have had such a reliable and exceptional colleague! 🌟

Wishing you all the best in all that you do, Annie! I can’t wait to see what the future holds for you! πŸ’«

Happy New Year! πŸ’™

Over the holidays I had the privilege to dive on some of the most pristine, colourful reefs in West Papua where we also found incredible marine life such as pygmy seahorses, manta rays, wobbegong sharks, large schools of barracuda, nudibranches and many more!

The abundance and rich biodiversity of Raja Ampat, its unspoiled natural beauty reminded me of how beautiful and stunning the earth really is, and how much we are missing out on land! πŸŒπŸŒ…

Day 5 of the Nervous System Reset Challenge, today our focus is on social connection and self-care! πŸ«‚πŸ«Ά

Human beings are inherently social creatures. Social connection is critical to our overall well-being. It plays an important role on our identity and purpose. It gives us a sense of belongingness and connectedness with othersπŸ‘«πŸ»

Having strong social connections help to reduce anxiety and depression, give us better emotion regulation skills and it also leads to higher self-esteem and empathy. Having emotional support allows us to be happier and also live a longer life! πŸ₯³

So take this opportunity today to spend time connecting with a loved one, whether it’s through a phone call, video chat or meeting in person πŸ“žEngage in meaningful conversations and enjoy each other’s company πŸ‘―β€β™€οΈ

When life gets busy, self-care is often the first thing we neglect and the result is we become stressed and burned out πŸ˜– Self-care should be incorporated into your everyday life. Taking care of yourself by giving your body the food, rest and activity it needs for it to thrive 🌻 Take control of your own health, body, mind and spirit. If you don’t take care of yourself, nobody else will!

So dedicate time to YOURSELF. Choose one self-care activity that brings you joy and relaxation. This can be your hobby, listening to music, or creative expression such as painting or writing πŸŽ¨πŸŽΉπŸ’†πŸ»β€β™€οΈ Take your time to find the right activity, ask yourself what you need most at this precise moment and think about what you can do to satisfy your need πŸ™‡πŸ»β€β™‚οΈπŸ’

Day 4 of the Nervous System Reset Challenge, today our focus is on mindfulness and sleep hygiene! πŸ§˜πŸ»πŸ›Œ

Focusing on the present can have a positive impact on our health and well-being, including reduced stress, anxiety and depression, better memory and cognitive functions, lower blood pressure and improved sleep 🌟

Practice a 30-minute guided meditation first thing in the morning to declutter your mind and find stillness for the day β˜€οΈ

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-pvpljwAqtY

Throughout the day, practice mindfulness by bringing your attention to the present moment, promoting a sense of calmness. Notice the sensations in your body and surroundings, observe your thoughts without judgment πŸ•ŠοΈ

Before bed, choose a relaxing activity such as reading a book or gentle stretching to promote relaxation πŸ“–πŸ™†β€β™€οΈ Avoid screen time 60 minutes before bed πŸ“΅, create a comfortable sleep environment by changing to fresh and clean sheets and blanket, you can try calming scents such as lavender, and dim your lights πŸ›οΈπŸ•―οΈ

Sleep is an essential function that allows your body and mind to recharge. During our sleep is when our brain clears out waste and toxins from the central nervous system. It allows our nerve cells to reorganize 🧠

Most adults need at least 7 hours of sleep each night for proper cognitive and behavioral functions πŸ€“ Without sufficient sleep, our brain cannot function properly and can lead to chronic diseases. So take this opportunity to develop or create a sleep hygiene routine for yourself, including going to bed and waking up at consistent times everyday.

Day 3 of the Nervous System Reset Challenge, today our focus is on digital detox and gratitude practice! πŸ“΅πŸ™

We live in the most connected era in human history. However, too much technology, whether it’s time spent on smartphones or computers, doom-scrolling or binging on movies and series, can have unintended consequences and affect our well-being πŸ€’ Frequent technology use has been linked to heightened attention-deficit symptoms, depression, impaired brain functions, chronic neck problems and disrupted sleep πŸ₯±

While technology is not inherently bad, if it starts to interfere with your work, relationships, mental or physical health, you may benefit from a digital detox πŸ”•

For many people, ditching technology altogether isn’t going to happen, but we can start by taking 2 simple steps to minimize the impact on our sympathetic nervous system. The first is to avoid listening to the news first thing in the morning. πŸ“° And the second is to dedicate 3 full hours to a digital detox. πŸ“΅This can be anytime during the day but ideally before bedtime.

Turn off your electronic devices and engage in activities that do not involve screens, such as reading a physical book, a hobby or spend quality time with loved ones πŸ“–πŸ’€

Before bedtime, practice gratitude by writing down 3 things that you are grateful for. Reflect on the positive aspects of your life and express gratitude for them. You can write this down in a journal or just simply make a mental note πŸ“

Day 2 of the Nervous System Reset Challenge, today our focus is on physical activity and connection to nature! πŸƒπŸ»β€β™‚οΈπŸŒ³

Engage in 30 minutes of exercise that suits your personal fitness level and preferences. When it comes to exercising, it is important to choose something that you would enjoy doing. This could be walking, jogging, yoga, swimming, or any activity that gets your body moving πŸŠπŸ»β€β™€οΈβ›ΉπŸ»πŸš΄β€β™‚οΈ

We are constantly being surrounded by high level of positive ions from electromagnetic fields, generated by mobiles phones, computers and all other electronic devices and this can impair brain functions, suppress the immune system and lead to a host of ailments, eventually causing symptoms such as anxiety, headache, irritability and poor concentration. πŸ“±πŸ‘©πŸ»β€πŸ’»

Negative ions, on the other hand, have opposite effect on your health, mood and energy levels ✨ They make your body feel recharged and rejuvenated and this is why you feel so refreshed after being out in nature. Negative ions can be found in environments such as the ocean, mountains, forests and waterfalls ⛰️πŸͺ΅πŸŒ…

So take a 15 mins walk in a park or sit in a garden and if you can, walk barefoot on the grass πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈπŸ¦ΆπŸƒ

Day 1 of the Nervous System Reset Challenge, today our focus is on breathwork and cold exposure! πŸ«β„οΈ

Deep breathing and cold exposure have many health benefits including reduce inflammation, improve sleep quality as well as strengthen the immune systemπŸ’ͺ

The breathwork that we will be doing today is the Wim Hof Breathing Method, followed by a cold shower after. This should be done ideally in the morning to give you a fresh start to the dayπŸ§˜πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

STEP 1: Take 30 quick breaths, in through the nose and out through the mouth
STEP 2: Inhale one final time as deeply as possible, let the air out completely and hold for as long as you can
STEP 3: Until you feel the urge to breathe again, take a recovery breath (inhale) and hold for 10 seconds, then exhale

Repeat STEP 1-3 for 3 sets

After you complete the exercise, take your time to bask in the bliss, in the calmness. This calm state of mind is highly conducive for meditation πŸ˜ŒπŸƒ

Now if you have access to an ice bath, take that, otherwise simply take a cold shower!🚿🧊

If you are feeling stuck, frustrated or easily overwhelmed, you will benefit from this nervous system detox! 🌟

Each day of the challenge will include simple steps that are accessible and mostly free, thoughtfully designed to help refresh your mind, boost your energy, productivity and focus! πŸ™Œ

Here are some things to take note of before the challenge starts on coming Monday! ⏳

Throughout this 5-day challenge, try to minimize or even avoid excessive consumption of stimulants such as caffeine, alcohol, and ni****ne as these substances can overstimulate the nervous system and hinder its ability to reset and restore balance.

Stay hydrated, take a balanced diet, get at least 7-8 hours of quality sleep each night and take breaks to move your body throughout the day especially if you have a sedentary lifestyle. πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈπŸ’§
