SSMC@Novena hosted 27 dance students from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts at our clinic on 16 March 2026.

Our clinical team, Dr. Mandy Zhang and physiotherapist Huma Kathiwala, led a session on Injury Prevention, sharing practical ways for these performers to stay resilient and manage the physical demands of their craft.

Beyond the talk, the students got a firsthand look at our facilities and learned how specialized care can support their performance and longevity in dance.

It is always rewarding to support our local student talents, and we wish them all a safe and successful semester ahead—stay strong and keep dancing!

While we continue to gather with our loved ones to feast over this festive season, we may exceed our daily recommended salt intake without realising it.

In this article, our dietitian Ong Li Jiuen explains why high sodium intake is bad and shares how simple adjustments consumers can make to avoid overconsumption.

Some tips include: checking nutritional labels before purchase, replacing processed meat with fresh meat, and flavouring cooking with fresh herbs and spices.

To maintain a healthy balance, individuals should have meals regularly, stay hydrated during intense physical activity, and avoid extreme dietary restrictions.

Sport & Exercise Medicine and Orthopaedic doctors have seen an increase in teenagers seeking treatment for weight training injuries.

Catch Dr Scott Xu, Consultant, on Channel 8 and Channel U where he shared that most cases he encounters involve pain typically in the lower back or arms. Minor muscle or joint injuries usually require physical therapy and rehabilitation to strengthen muscle and joint stability, with recovery time expected to take around four - six weeks for non-serious injuries.

On top of adjusting the training weight, speed and intensity to daily physical condition, proper warm-up and stretching before and after exercises are important preventive measures to reduce the chance of sports injuries in teenagers.

Dancers know the feeling — when the music hits, your body just goes. But behind every smooth leap and turn, your joints and muscles are working hard. Small differences in strength, alignment, or technique can affect how your body handles that load.

Dr. Mandy breaks down the S.A.F.E framework to help you protect your joints and tissues and keep dancing with confidence.
