We had the pleasure of participating in a networking event organized by NAFA University of the Arts Singapore on 17th January 2025, in partnership with Sports Medicine Association Singapore.

It was a fantastic evening filled with valuable connections and meaningful discussions with aspiring student artists, faculty members, and industry professionals. One of the highlights was the Performing Arts Medicine segment by Dr Mandy Zhang (our Dance Lead at the Performing Arts Medicine Clinic), where she delved into the unique health challenges faced by performing artists and provided valuable insights into best practices for their care.

We also had so much fun interacting with everyone at our booth to raise awareness about PAM and its presence in Singapore. We were delighted to see some lucky attendees participating in our games and walk away with prizes too! To cap off the evening, we enjoyed a delicious Lo Hei to welcome the new year together.

Thank you NAFA and SMAS for organizing this wonderful event and providing us with this valuable opportunity to connect with the arts community😊

May the new year bring new possibilities and joys. Happy New Year!

As we head into the season of merry-making, do remember to aim for at least 150 to 300 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity per week.

Clin Asst Prof Ivy Lim, Senior Consultant, shares that one can monitor and track your volume of exercise using the F**T (frequency, intensity, time and type) principle.

Other than keeping you motivated and uninjured, tracking your progress and adjusting the exercise regime is similar to how doctors adjust medications to treat a condition.

Our Senior Consultant, Dr Ivy Lim (in light blue) shares some Physical Activity tips on keeping healthy.

Happy International Women's Day! 💐

Today is International Women’s Day! EIMS Public Outreach director Dr Ivy Lim (pictured first from left) shares some tips for keeping in good health.

1. How do you fit Physical Activity into your busy schedule?

I take the stairs between levels, or approach an escalator particularly when the lift is crowded. Brisk walking also helps when rushing between meetings. A reminder to self: Build in toilet or water breaks throughout the day to break up sedentary time or prolonged sitting.

When not driving, I take public transport as it is often cheaper and can avoid jams. When driving, I look for the cheapest parking available in the vicinity and walk to my destination.

2. Can you share with us on the importance of Physical Activity particularly for Women's health?

Physical activity is important for both males and females. For females in particular, there is strong evidence that physical activity lowers risk of breast cancer, and moderate evidence that PA lowers risk of endometrial cancer (cancer of womb lining) and increases bone density.

3. What are some key Physical Activity recommendations for women?

Personally, I recommend to try and build in “exercise snacks” throughout the day, and incorporate physical activity into your daily lifestyle whenever you can. Start low and go slow, and build up your momentum from there. Most importantly, do what works for you. Whether it be signing up for classes, or exercise dates with friends and family, find your motivation through doing what you enjoy.
