MATCHA GREEN TEA 抹茶 🍵
(Camellia sinensis)

Took me awhile to appreciate it, but after a couple of years living in the Land of the Rising Sun, I’ve learnt to enjoy the richness and bitterness of green tea.

Although it’s a source of caffeine, it doesn’t quite stimulate you like coffee does. It, however, wakes you up in a refreshing way, all thanks to L-Theanine (an amino acid found in matcha).

There is a term “zest and zen” describing the effects of matcha on consumption, giving reason to why it’s revered by monks to be incorporated in meditative practices.

Boasting an umami taste, it’s high antioxidant content intrigued me to attempt to having it as my daily staple. I’m still working on it 😂

What’s your daily staple/ must have to get your day going?

Feeling blue in winter? Lacking motivation during winter? Digestive problems acting up in the cold weather?

Maybe we need to start thinking about your Vitamin D levels.

Vitamin D is readily created endogenously through UVB rays from the sun, despite UVB also being responsible for causing sunburns 😅

But during winter, your skin is exposed less to the sun from all the winter wear, reducing the chance for your body to create Vitamin D.

Vitamin D, aside from being the sunshine vitamin, is also the “feel-good vitamin”, by helping the management of moods.

Vitamin D is a partner to calcium to reduce risk of osteoporosis, but it is equally important for gut health, too, to achieve a healthy, balanced gut microflora population.

“How do I manage if I’m deficient/ having the symptoms of deficiency?”
There are many ways, including dietary and supplementary methods.

If you think you need support, feel free to reach out - let’s see how we can help you feel better! 💪

For a lot of the mothers I’ve come to know and befriended in Japan, the common theme I hear of concern, is having to detach from being “just mama”, and retaining their own identity.

From a healing perspective, many are not able to seek the help they need to support their emotional well-being. No doubt motherhood (especially in the early stages) can be rather lonely! And that’s where mama groups are really the pillar in the community.

Mamas need nurturing emotionally, but also physically. And I’m glad to have some mothers understand how complementary medicine can strengthen them positively.

Here’s to reminding all mothers (in all capacities and types!) to remember to take a break to ground yourself. Seek the support that you feel best, and remember that you are not alone in this journey.

Have a wonderful day to remember all that mothering is about 🌷🌹

SAGE (Salvia spp.)

Not the prettiest of pictures, but thought I’d capture this moment of a sage plant covered in snow - marking the first snow fall of the year in Yokohama, Japan! 🌿☃️

Aside from being a common culinary herb and popularly as a smudge stick (for space clearing), sage is also a wonderful medicinal plant.

Benefits of sage includes:
→ Easing digestive problems
→ Anti-inflamatory & antimicrobial
→ Memory booster

Want to consume sage?
→ Use it to marinade chicken for roasting
→ Add it to your (western) soups or pasta
→ Use the leaves to make tea

As it is part of the mint family, you might get a hint of mint earthiness among its own strong flavour.

Enjoy using sage! ☺️✌️

So what’s the year been like for me, ? 😅

Juggling between settling down in this new land and providing continuous care to my clients.

Faced a few set backs in the past year with interrupted telecalls, prescriptions not able to reach clients due to border closures, and missing packages 🤦🏻‍♀️

On the bright side, this year has allowed me to realign my expectations, reset my goals, and reconsider my opportunities - who am I as a practitioner and how can I improve to better serve my clients 💪

As we enter the new year soon, may your reflections help guide you through ahead, and remember to take deep breaths, too.

Bye 2021.
2022 shall be brighter ✨

What a crazy few months it has been here in Japan! State of emergency (SOE) persisted for so long that it has now been lifted, woooh! That being said, we should all keep vigilant to our wellbeing, and be mindful of hygiene at home and while out and about 😷

As we start the last quarter of the year (Hello October!), it’s also a reminder that festivities are coming up real soon! With many parts of the world starting to open up and relax restrictions, many are enjoying going back out to dine 🍲

So…
Here’s a little PSA with eating!
Be mindful with what you choose, with amounts of moderation, and foods that will bring you joy at the same time.

You want that dessert? Why not? Just take note of the portions!

You crave french fries? Go for it - balance it out with good portioning of proteins and green vegetables!

Basically, a lot of our problems with diets and choice of it, is giving labels of “bad” and “good” foods. Most of the time though, it’s the portions people are eating, rather than the types of food exactly.

So rather than over think whether or not the food is “healthy”, think about how much you are eating, and bring it to a moderation.

Need help figuring out what works for you? I’m here to help 🙋🏻‍♀️☺️✨

Eat with Joy ok? You will feel happier 💛

Motherwort • 𝐿𝑒𝑜𝑛𝑢𝑟𝑢𝑠 𝑐𝑎𝑟𝑑𝑖𝑎𝑐𝑎 • 益母草

A heart strengthener, particularly for the anxious heart.
A stress reliever, especially when tension arises.
A soothing tonic, specific to uterine health.

It's thorny axils, grows in mimic of a heart beat.
It's bitter properties signify support through deepest moments.
It's upright stem shows strength in overcoming circumstances.

++++

This beautiful herb has long been linked to motherhood, as it's name suggest! Even it's botanical name suggests lion (Leonurus) strength of a heart (cardiaca).

The use of Motherwort is likened to treating a mother with "empty nest syndome". It works by delighting and strengthening the heart of an anxious mother (think stress and heart palpitations).

Aside from being a heart tonic, it's also an emmanogogue (inducing and regulating menstruation), at the same time relieves menstrual cramps.

For the digestive system, it supports a stressed-out person by improving liver function, and in turn a better appetite.

++++

So, Motherwort really resonates with mothers, and all that she goes through in motherhood. Mothers, regardles of what stage, never stop worrying. Agree?

Dedicating this powerful herb to all mothers:
New mothers, mothers-to-be, mothers-in-waiting, veteran mothers, grandmothers and their mothers before them, mothers-in-laws, fathers who had to be mothers, and every other kind of mother that I may have missed out.

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY 💐🤱🏻

One year ago, a conversation about confidence and natural medicine took place. Though I’ve been in the industry through retail for many years, I was in a position of doubt. I was getting mentally exhausted, and also having to deal with business owners of “money first, patients later” 😕

At that time, we were in the thick of COVID-19. After multiple queries headed my way, seeking support in dealing with this pandemic, I took up the challenge to birth my own platform.

One year of has not been the most smooth sailing, but it sure has brought me places and gained trusted clients.

This post is for myself - a reminder of great things that one can do despite the adversities. And for those who have been supporting despite the temporary absence,
THANK YOU.
谢谢.
ありがとうございます.
TERIMA KASIH.
GRACIAS 🙏
