This is definitely one of the greatest perks of this job, receiving such a joyful message from a parent whom I have known for the last 5 years.

Despite being first-time parents then, Baby H's parents had so much belief in her that she could sleep better. Grateful for the chance to help, I adjusted her wake times then, and her parents gave her the time and space to learn the skill of independent sleep.

She was sleep trained....in....a....day! We were so proud of her, and she has been a good sleeper till now.

Thank you for this message, S, and your hard work and mindfulness to her sleep needs had definitely paid off.

My heart is full today. πŸ’“

One of my clients in Hong Kong shot me this SOS regarding her boy which we have sleep trained since he was 8 months old and he has been a dream sleeper since then....until now!

We actively checked these boxes and ultimately found out at it was a dietary and a sleep needs change. We adjusted (and eradicated!) accordingly and Baby M went back being the dream sleeper he had been! ❀️

HOW SOON CAN I SEE THE RESULTS OF SLEEP TRAINING?

This has to be one of the most common (and legit) question parents ask when they are exploring sleep training for their babies.

Baby A's parents were one of them and they needed results fast because Baby A was barely sleeping, and kept waking up each time he was placed in the cot after being rocked. Imagine that repeated more than 20 times a night!

Fast forward to the first night of sleep training, Baby A managed for the first time in his life, a 11h plus stretch of sleep and only 1 pick up for his night feed.

Stats don't lie, so i have presented his data before and after sleep training to encourage parents to give their babies a chance to learn how to sleep by themselves.

Love this.

It matters what you say to them.

It matters how you spend your time with them.

It matters how you make them feel.

It matters if you are real.

It matters how you love them with your whole heart and show affection.

It matters how you apologize and invite vulnerability to the table.

It matters how you encourage big dreams and tell them the sky is the limit.

It matters if you give them a safe place to land.

It matters if you are their biggest advocate and loudest cheerleader.

It matters if you teach them kindness by demonstrating it.

It matters if you wipe their tears away and put a bandaid on their scraped-up knee.

This parenting thing isn’t something to take lightly.

It’s a big job.

The biggest of them all.

But it’s one where we will keep showing up,
keep learning,
keep apologizing,
keep growing,
and keep offering every ounce of our hearts to see their little hearts soar.

⏰ BEDTIME ROUTINE CHANGES (WITH AGE)

As much as we would like to hang on to those chubby baby cheeks and Michelin Man rolls, our darling little ones are transforming from hapless babes to tumbling toddlers and to inquisitive preschoolers.

As our children evolve, so do their bedtime routines. Bedtime routines need to be age-appropriate to address the child’s developmental and emotional growth. Let’s break the stages down and take a closer look. πŸ”Ž

πŸ‘Ά 0 to 18 months

At this age, the routine can be as short as 5 to 15 minutes. The main purpose of the routine is to convey the message of bedtime and to invite blissful sleep through a CONSISTENT routine. The routine serves as a form of communication to the baby to signal sleep, through the same sequence of events that take place before bedtime.

πŸ§’πŸ»1.5 to 3 years old

At this age, your sweet babbling baby has transformed into an opinionated, adorable toddler who just opened the Pandora box of pushing boundaries. Suddenly your 10 minute routine becomes hindered by non-compliance, endless water requests and meltdowns. To tackle this phase, you will need to β€œdraw the playing field” (your boundaries) and let him have free play within those boundaries. Example: You decide how many books to read and he can decide which books he wants and where to read them. Once he feels that he has some say in his life, he will become more co-operative with your agenda. The duration of the routine will need to be stretched to accommodate the extra activities.

πŸƒ 4 years old and above

At this age, your preschooler is thriving in the learning department as he soaks in new knowledge of the world around him like a sponge. It is becoming like a 2 way street with him now, with lots of exchanges of information and the 10,000 Whys. Your preschooler is also starting to have BIG feelings which he may not know how to deal with. The aim of the bedtime routine now is to be present and there for him after a long day apart to settle both his mind and his heart. Asking him questions and taking interest in his day will go a long way to top up his emotional bucket.

Very "sound" advice. πŸ₯°

"Words matter. Three parenting tips to remember about our words:
1. Let your children overhear you saying nice things about them
2. Remember that your words become their internal voice. Be kind.
3. Talk nicely about others. When we point out the good in others, it becomes easier to see the good in others."

We would like to extend our most heartfelt condolences to the parents of Baby Jing Yu and may his sweet soul rest in peace with the angels. πŸ‘Ό

Safe sleeping is the utmost top priority during the first year. To reduce the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), take a look at these few guidelines, and spread this awareness.

βœ… Always place the baby down on his back for naps and night sleep.

βœ… Once the baby is starting to show signs of rolling (starting from being able to move from back to his side), free his hands from his swaddle so that he will have the mobility to roll onto his tummy and back.

βœ… Ensure the crib is bare. There should not be any bolsters, pillows, blankets or soft toys in the cot as these will pose as breathing hazards.

βœ… Ensure that the mattress is firm and the bedsheet is not loose. Loose bedding may cover up the nose and make breathing difficult.

βœ… Try to let your baby sleep in his crib. Avoid co-sleeping with the baby in your bed as he may slip under heavy blankets or pillows during the night. Also, your baby may accidentally roll off the bed as cushions etc are not effective barriers.

βœ… Regardless of the number of the naps your baby is on, he does not need a 3 to 4 hours nap. If the wake windows are appropriate, most naps can be capped at 2 hours.
