Twitchy twitchy twitch ~

Ever wonder what dry needling is? It is the use of sterile needles applied to the soft tissues of the body using western anatomy to facilitate a change in the tissues.

𝐀𝐢𝐦𝐬 𝐭𝐨:
✅ Reduce pain
✅ Inactivate trigger points
✅ Reduce muscle spasm
✅ Increase range of motion
✅ Reignite the healing response

𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐭 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤?
The activation of deep muscle knots or “myofascial” structures can produce more widespread pain than just the knot in question. This is a referral pattern that can be released with direct needling. There is no solution being injected hence “dry needling”.

This increases blood flow which promotes healing and activates the release of your body's natural analgesics at the needle site.

Dry Needling is also used in conjunction with many other techniques and exercise plans as found to be in your “postural findings and movement screening”.

Ooooh feeling knotty? 🤭

Many people experience neck pain or stiffness occasionally. In many cases, it’s from postural strain, or lifestyle factors such as your sleeping position or too many hours logged at the computer. Sometimes, neck pain is also caused by direct trauma, improper form when exercising or even dental issues.

Do Osteopaths treat neck pain? Absolutely! Actually, it's a very common reason why people come to see us.

Common neck pain conditions we treat:
⛔️ “Text neck” (repetitive stress injury)
⛔️Cervical Osteoarthritis
⛔️Muscular imbalances
⛔️Facet joint sprains
⛔️Stiffness
⛔️Wry neck
⛔️Whiplash

🆘 🆘 🆘
Various forms of neck injury can also be accompanied by dizziness or cervical vertigo. If left untreated, other than headaches this can lead to other conditions such as:
🔺Migraines
🔺Arthritic pains
🔺Disc injuries
🔺Nerve root impingement

No matter the cause of your pain, it can be frustrating. Turn to our guide for stretches that aim to reduce muscle tension, improve movement, and strengthen the postural muscles.

1️⃣ While sitting, pull down on the skin over the sternum (middle of your chest), and extend your head backwards
2️⃣ Let head fall forward and roll side to side
3️⃣ Sit on your hands and side bend your head right and left - apply additional pressure to add stretch if needed
4️⃣ Push your head straight back to give yourself a double chin and forward again
5️⃣ Hot or cold compress

Don’t ignore that knotty feeling in your neck, contact us (details in bio) to know more on how we may be able to assist you.

Have you ever wondered what the difference between Osteopathy and Physiotherapy is? Or if you should see a Physiotherapist or an Osteopath?

Whilst both have trained extensively in anatomy, health sciences, and hands-on techniques, there are some differences between them. Osteopaths and Physiotherapists both incorporate manual therapy and exercise prescription into their treatments. However…

💆🏻‍♂️ Osteopaths generally have a more hands-on approach (eg. spinal manipulation, massage, cranial sacral, nerve mobilisations), with some exercise and lifestyle management.

🏃🏻‍♂️ This is compared to Physiotherapists with a strong focus on management with some manual therapy for the treatment of their patients.

Physiotherapists utilise exercise protocols that work great with specific conditions, injuries and post surgical rehabilitation.

Osteopaths utilise the following guiding principles in treating the patient as a whole

1️⃣ The body is a unit
2️⃣ Structure and function are interrelated
3️⃣ The body is capable of self-regulation, self-maintenance and self-healing
4️⃣ All rational treatment is based on consideration of all these principles and their place within the current evidence

Many injuries are non specific and sometimes a lens and set of principles in which to view the body is a great starting point!

Both professions complement each other nicely. Ultimately deciding whether to see an Osteopath or a Physiotherapist comes down to personal preference and what approach may work best for the individual.

Stay engaged in your own management and you'll do just fine!

Tension headaches are really uncomfortable and painful. Some people say it feels like a tight band around your head. In usual cases, the pain starts in your neck and shoulders, slowly travels up to the back of your head and spreads forward.

It won’t throb but you may feel pain in your neck. 🤯

This happens when neck and scalp muscles become tense and contract. It can last anywhere from 30 minutes to a few days!

Things that could trigger one include:
❗️Imbalance
❗️Direct trauma
❗️Postural issues
❗️Stress
❗️Depression
❗️Anxiety

🆘 How Can You Stop Them? 🆘

🔥 HEAT
Use a hot pack, a hot water bottle, a warm compress or a hot shower, and apply to the neck or scalp.

🧊 ICE
Apply an ice pack (wrapped in a cloth) to the neck or a cool washcloth across the forehead.

💆🏻‍♂️ MASSAGE
Give yourself a neck and scalp massage and stretch. Else, a therapist-assisted massage could help alleviate the pain.

🦾 SPINAL MANIPULATION
Therapist-assisted neck manipulation for better spinal function and to relieve stress to your head and neck

Don’t let Tension Headaches hinder you from your daily activities!

“What is Osteopathy?”

This is one question we get asked so often.

It’s a drug-free, non-invasive manual therapy that uses a combination of a variety of hands-on techniques, exercise and lifestyle advice.

At Central Osteopathy Singapore, we utilise techniques with the aim to:
✅ Improve body function
✅ Increase the mobility of joints
✅ Reduce in stress levels and muscle tension
✅ Reduce pain

Although we sometimes suffer an acute injury, a lot of times our issues arise from an overload or imbalance from a variety of sources. An osteopath attempts to identify, remove or manage what they deem a “block to self healing “ and is done through:
🔍 Detailed case history
🔍 Movement screens
🔍 Pain management techniques
🔍 Exercise management
🔍 Manual techniques
🔍 Lifestyle advice
🔍 Referral where appropriate

Here are some conditions (not all!) we see in the clinic:
🆘 Back and neck pain
🆘 Postural problems (incl. pregnancy changes)
🆘 Chronic sitting
🆘 Work strains
🆘 Age related postures
🆘 Sports injuries
🆘 General movement restrictions
🆘 Headaches
🆘 Jaw pain
🆘 Joint pain

Rest assured! Osteopaths are trained to screen for signs of serious conditions that they cannot treat and to appropriately refer for imaging or relevant medical speciality.

There’s no need to continue with discomfort! We’ve got you covered, contact us (details in bio) and get your body moving pain-free today.
