Su***de is never the result of a single cause.

In an interview with today, shared that while su***de in children and youth can sometimes be impulsive, it often sits against a backdrop of ongoing struggles, from mental health conditions to isolation and stress.

He reminds us that what may seem small to adults can feel overwhelming to a child, and every sign of distress deserves to be taken seriously. Creating safe, supportive spaces whether at home, in schools, and among peers, can make all the difference.

Ever feel drained, anxious, or unproductive after scrolling on your phone? You might be experiencing brain rot.

⚠️ Endless scrolling isn’t harmless. A healthy brain thrives in three areas:
• Thinking: focus, learning, planning, and memory
• Feeling: emotional balance and stress management
• Doing: engaging in meaningful daily activities

Excessive scrolling and low-quality online content can disrupt all three.

Practice mindful screen habits, prioritize offline activities, and give your brain the stimulation it truly needs.

We were honoured to join Spark the Change Fest 2025 at Gardens by the Bay, organised by Samaritans of Singapore Limited (SOS), to break the stigma around su***de. 🧡

Over 2,500 participants came together for a morning of walking and running, standing together to show that nobody has to face their darkest days alone. This year, Connections MindHealth and Fullerton Health Singapore also made a donation to support the cause.

Our Medical Director, Dr Jared Ng, also serves on the Board of Directors at SOS. Beyond his clinical role, he continues to volunteer his time and expertise to strengthen su***de prevention efforts in Singapore.

Together, we believe every step, whether through community events, conversations, or care, brings us closer to a society where seeking help is seen as strength..❤️‍🩹

What if a single conversation could save a life? ❤️‍🩹

Talking about su***de can feel scary - we may worry about saying the wrong thing, or fear making things worse.
But the truth is, starting the conversation is one of the most powerful ways we can help.

This Su***de Prevention Month, let’s choose compassion over silence. A gentle word, a listening ear, a simple “How are you?” it can make all the difference. 🌱

💬 In Asian families, supporting children into adulthood often stems from love, responsibility, and culture. But .psychiatrist , our psychiatrist at Connections MindHealth, reminds us that while helping is natural, unlimited financial support can sometimes create more strain than relief for both parents and children.

From retirement insecurity to emotional stress and even family tensions, “sacrificial parenting” has its limits. Healthy boundaries and open conversations about money are key to fostering true independence.

Social anxiety in children is often mistaken for “just shyness.”

Dr Jared Ng shared with The Straits Times that many young people quietly struggle with fears of being judged or embarrassed. For some, this shows up as physical symptoms like headaches or stomach aches. For others, it grows into avoidance, skipping school, withdrawing socially, or leaving home only at night.

“The important message,” Dr Ngreminds us, “is that social anxiety is not just a passing phase. If left untreated, it can persist into adulthood and limit opportunities. But with early recognition, therapy, and support at home and in school, young people can learn to manage their fears and thrive.”

When a child reports bullying, the response must come fast and clear.

Recent bullying incidents in Singapore have sparked urgent questions about whether students feel truly protected in school.

In his latest CNA Commentary, Dr Jared Ng shares why bullying must never be dismissed as “just a phase.” It is trauma that can leave lasting scars. From recognising early signs to creating safe school cultures, he stresses that every child deserves to feel safe in school and at home.
