Snoring Heavily In Your Sleep?
Although snoring can be normally seen as a night-time nuisance, it maybe a signal of a chronic sleep disorder known as Obstructive Sleep Apnoea. (OSA)
Sleep Apnoea or OSA affects one’s breathing and interrupts sleep. Often times, individuals having Sleep Apnoea will stop breathing many times during sleep. This is due to overly relaxed airway muscles collapse, resulting in a complete or partial blockage of the upper airway. This causes the diaphragm and chest muscles to exert harder to reopen the airway, thus causing in gasping as breathing resumes. This kind of blockage of the airway will lead to a grinding snore, which in turn interrupts sleep, obstructs oxygen flow and even affects vital organs.
When sleep quality is poor, it can affect work and study performance as well as elevate the risks of industrial and road accidents.
If OSA is left untreated, Sleep Apnoea may eventually result in hypertension, stroke, irregular heart rhythm, enlargement of the heart muscle, heart failure, diabetes and even sudden death.
OSA can often go untreated due to being disguised for "normal" snoring. Nevertheless, owing to the lots of severe potential complications linked to OSA, it is vital to consult a doctor if one has found showing these following symptoms:
• Snoring
• Sleepiness or fatigue during day time
• Waking up with dry mouth or sore throat
• Urination frequently at night
• Waking up having headaches
• Having Night sweats
• Restlessness during sleep
• Sudden awakening with gasping or choking
