Headaches! Cervicogenic? The Missing Link: The Heart-Brain Axis and Lymphatics

We see patients coming in for many different types of bad headaches and often Cervicogenic in nature. However, we do encounter unique cases of headaches, like one case attributed to heart lymphatics (see review).

It resists standard neurology because the cause may not originate in the brain, but from a systemic issue centered on the heart-brain axis. The missing link is often lymphatic congestion around the heart (mediastinum).

New science shows the brain's waste drainage connects to lymphatics near the heart. If this is congested, it creates a harmful cycle:
1. Inflammation: Waste and inflammatory molecules back up, sensitizing brain pain pathways.
2. Nerve Irritation: Congestion physically irritates the vagus nerve, disrupting the autonomic nervous system. This can cause dysautonomia, where the brain misinterprets chest signals as head pain.
