Our Story
In our world today, the number of individuals affected by non-communicable Diseases (“NCDs”) or lifestyle diseases is on the rise. These NCD’s include cancers, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases (such as heart attack and stroke) and chronic respiratory diseases (such as obstructive pulmonary disease and asthma). Indeed, NCD’s tend to be prolonged illnesses that are the result of a combination of our daily physiological, genetic, environmental and behavioural factors.
Currently, NCD’s are responsible for 71% of deaths worldwide and despite the heightened advancements in healthcare, the number of individuals affected by NCD’s has increased from 38 million to 41 million as of 2018 (WHO Report 2018). These increasing numbers demonstrate that the current state of healthcare is largely reactive and has little to offer when it comes to preventing NCD related deaths from occurring.
Fortunately, it has been proven that many of these diseases are able to be prevented or even reversed through the practice of Preventive Medicine. The concept of Preventive Medicine is best described by the phrase “prevention is better than cure” and is defined as the use of medical techniques and treatments intended to forestall disease prior to its occurrence.
Thus, in the wake of the current state of medicine, Wellness Lifestyle & Health Group was founded by renowned Singaporean Specialists, Dr. Peter Yan (Cardiologist) and Dr. Teo Cheng Peng (Haematologist) to not only address the current shortfalls in healthcare, but to spearhead the dawn of a new era: where the prevention of disease becomes the status quo and reactive medicine a thing of the past.
