Homeopathy has been around for more than 200 years, and is one of the most common complementary therapies used by people with cancer. However, there is no scientific evidence that it can prevent or treat cancer.

So how does it help?

As with most types of complementary therapy, people use it because it may help them feel better or more in control of their situation. Followers of homeopathy promote it to people with cancer as a natural way to help you:
* relax
* cope with stress, anxiety and depression
* control symptoms and side effects such as pain, sickness and tiredness

As always, practice caution and keep things transparent. Tell your cancer doctors before using any homeopathic remedy, and tell your homeopath that you are having cancer treatment. Make a fully informed decision when exploring ways to manage cancer.

In this study, researchers found that patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) have better quality of life and survival rate when using homeopathy to alleviate side effects of conventional therapy. Compared to the placebo group, the median survival time was significantly longer in the homeopathy group (435 days) versus placebo (257 days) as well as versus control (228 days). A higher QoL might have contributed to the prolonged survival.

Clinical hypnosis has been defined as a mind-body therapy that involves a deeply relaxed state, individualized mental imagery, and therapeutic suggestion. The word hypnosis, derived from the Greek word for sleep, was coined by James Braid in 1841.

Hypnosis produces an altered state of consciousness, awareness, or perception. A clinical hypnosis session typically comprises two basic phases: Induction - the therapist helps the patient to relax, and Application - the patient receives therapeutic suggestions. Hypnosis can help with cancer by managing pain, relieve nausea, reduce fatigue, lessen hot flashes, and improve quality of sleep.

Mycotoxins are produced by just over 360 species of mould and are a danger to health for their potential to cause serious diseases including cancer. Despite the immense risk, nearly 25 percent of the world’s crops are impacted by mycotoxins.

To ensure brand and public health risks are kept at a minimum, conducting a mycotoxin risk-analysis of your suppliers, ingredients, and formulation, and where needed, incorporating a HACCP or HARPC point to ensure ongoing compliance and safety, can help maintain the good name of your business.

How do we prevent mycotoxin contamination in finished products? Jaclyn Bowen offers some useful advice for food manufacturers.

"Why would a woman with a Seniors Card decide to shed her locks
One thing’s for sure it wasn’t to inspire your awe and shock
So when you see a woman with a freshly-shaven dome
Just applaud her for her confidence in getting out from home"

This is an excerpt of a poem titled, ’Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow’ written by breast cancer survivor Meredith Campbell of Alice Springs. Her cancer diagnosis in July 2020 left her slightly shocked and numb though not overly surprised, as she had lost her mother to cancer earlier. To cope and communicate her feelings to the world, Ms Campbell turned to poetry such as the above. Her witty poems had resonated with other cancer survivors, and carries the hope for better awareness of the effects of cancer treatments.

Meredith Campbell didn't want to have the same difficult conversation every time she visited the supermarket so instead she wrote an insightful, and funny, poem.
