The Singapore Red Cross (SRC) is intensifying support to the relief operations in and by Red Cross Red Crescent Movement partners, including the الهلال الأحمر المصري - Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC), with close to SGD 1.2 million in humanitarian aid. As part of the State Visit to Cairo, Egypt, President Tharman Shanmugaratnam visited the ERC, where he witnessed the symbolic handover of donations from the SRC to the ERC.

The current tranche of aid comprises the previously announced SGD 440,000 worth of tents and a new commitment of SGD 758,000 for essential medical and educational services for Palestinian evacuees in Egypt.

At 30, Lydia Lee has already dedicated half her life to the humanitarian cause of the Singapore Red Cross! It began with an interest in first aid at the age of 15 and soon grew into years of meaningful service. Whether it’s long hours on duty as a First Aider or everyday acts of service for others, she lives by the motto: “Think big, start small, build deep.”

Lydia’s dedication was recognised at this year’s Singapore Red Cross Awards ceremony where she received a High Commendation Award, inspiring others to take that first step, no matter how small.

Retirement turned out to be a new beginning for Mr Roslan Bin Maarof, who sought out a meaningful way to spend his time. He eventually found it as a volunteer with the Singapore Red Cross’ Medical Chaperone & Transport service, accompanying clients with disabilities or mobility limitations to essential healthcare appointments.

Mr Roslan sees the time he spends with each client as an opportunity for connection, knowing that the warmth of a greeting and genuine conversation can make all the difference.

For his passion and sustained service as a medical chaperone, Mr Roslan received the Commendation Award at our annual awards ceremony earlier this month.

Mrs Eunice Yeo once grew up counting cents for meals. Today, her resourcefulness and empathy fuel purpose-driven movements for children in need.

As the Founder of Peace of Art and Sustainable Markets SG, Eunice advocates for youth empowerment, intergenerational giving, and placemaking by transforming small acts into a nationwide ripple of generosity. Her approach of mobilising communities has raised a collective $1.4 million for the Singapore Red Cross’ programmes. This year, Peace of Art SG received the Friend of Singapore Red Cross Award in recognition of these efforts.

Once a timid person by her own admission, Richelle Lim joined the Red Cross Youth Singapore (RCY) unit at Serangoon Secondary School on a whim. She didn’t expect that decision to start a journey that not only transformed her into a confident leader, but also shaped her into a humanitarian who makes an impact on the world.

From serving as Chairperson of her unit to learning first aid skills and raising funds for those in need, Richelle cherishes the experiences and opportunities that RCY has given her.
“Even as students, we don’t have to wait until we’re older or ‘more experienced’ to make a difference.”

In recognition of her excellence, Richelle received the President’s Youth Award earlier this month at the Singapore Red Cross Awards 2025.

Mr Nadim van der Ros began his volunteer journey later than most, but that hasn’t stopped him from giving it his all.

What started as a simple wish to contribute locally grew into a deeper commitment when he joined the Overseas Disaster Deployment Training (ODDT). Inspired by passionate trainers and strengthened by his time with the SAF Volunteer Corps, Nadim discovered his ability to support disaster response missions through planning and communications.

Earlier this month, he received the High Commendation Award for his exceptional voluntary service with the Singapore Red Cross.

“I do what I do because I believe in the Singapore Red Cross as a humanitarian concept. If I can apply my skills to support and strengthen vulnerable communities, that’s where I want to be.”

It's World First Aid Day today, where we remember the importance of lifesaving skills.

For volunteer Bernard Boey, being a first aider wasn't always second nature — it took time and the guidance of more experienced volunteers around him to build his confidence and independence. In recognition of his dedication as a First Aider on Wheels, Bernard received a Commendation Award at the Singapore Red Cross Awards ceremony earlier this month.

He shares his experience witnessing an injury and responding in the nick of time: https://redcross.sg/news-and-stories/12-stories/1641-how-to-save-a-life.html

On 28 August 2025, the Singapore Red Cross hosted a Dinner Reception as part of our humanitarian week, themed Humanitarian Encounter – Building Bridges.

The evening welcomed friends from the diplomatic community, partners, and colleagues from Red Cross Red Crescent National Societies. It was a night of connection and conversation, offering valuable insights into our expanding humanitarian work both locally and abroad.

It was a commemoration of our continued efforts to foster meaningful humanitarian action. ❤️✨
