It is our humble aim to actively play a role in reviving the Blessed Sunnah of our Prophet, Muhammad (saw) and to continually seek to improve the standard of Hijama treatment for the benefits of our community. "sucking") is the Arabic name in traditional medicine for wet cupping, where blood is drawn by vacuum from a small skin incision for therapeutic purposes. Hijama Therapy is based on the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine, a Holistic system of preventative medicine that incorporates diet, exercise and medicine in order to promote and maintain a healthy, balanced mind and body. The underpinning aim is that of maintaining balance within the body’s systems in order to prevent ill health from occurring. This is done by bringing about a balanced flow of the body's energy, known as Chi, which flows around the body in pathways known as Meridians. It is believed that all illness that manifests in the body is the result of an imbalance of this energy. By stimulating specific points along these Meridian pathways it is possible to influence the flow of Chi. The effects of this include, dispersing stagnant accumulations of Chi and strengthening, or tonifying, areas of weak Chi, thereby restoring, and maintaining the body's natural state. The Prophet (SAW) enhanced this practice by prescribing specific times at which to perform Hijama Therapy in order to derive the most benefit and by stipulating the preferred areas of the body to perform Hijama to facilitate and promote good health and wellbeing as a preventative measure against the onset of ill health. Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said, "Indeed the best of remedies you have is Hijama, and if there was something excellent to be used as a remedy then it is Hijama." He (SAW) also said that on the night of Israa' (his ascension to the heavens) he (SAW) did not pass by a group of angels except that they said to him "Oh Muhammad, order your Ummah (nation) with cupping (hijama)." [Saheeh Sunan Tirmidhee (3479)]. This shows the importance and greatness of this Sunnah. Abdullah ibn Abbas y reported that the Messenger r said, "Healing is in three things: in the incision of the cupper, in drinking honey, and in cauterizing with fire, but I forbid my Ummah (nation) from cauterization (branding with fire)." [Saheeh al-Bukhaaree (5681), Saheeh Sunan ibn Maajah (3491)]. Ibn Umar y reported that the Messenger r said, "Cupping (hijama) on an empty stomach* is best. It increases the intellect and improves the memory. It improves the memory of the one memorising. So whoever is going to be cupped then (let it be) on a Thursday in the name of Allah. Keep away from being cupped on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Be cupped on a Monday or Tuesday. Do not be cupped on a Wednesday because it is the day that Ayoub was befallen with a trial. You will not find leprosy except (by being cupped) on Wednesday or Wednesday night." [Saheeh Sunan ibn Maajah (3488)]. Anas ibn Maalik y was asked: "Did you dislike cupping for the fasting person?" He said, "No except for the reason of one becoming weak."[Saheeh al-Bukhaaree (1940)].
