What does โ€œresistanceโ€ actually mean in therapy or group facilitation? ๐Ÿค”

At our recent Skills Training Workshop, we explored a powerful paradigm shift: โ€œResistance is not opposition; it is a lack of warm-up.โ€ (Zerka T. Moreno)

Through action methods like Doubling and Role Reversal, mental health professionals and facilitators spent the weekend learning how to build deep emotional readiness and guide clients toward true trust. When we give a gentle voice to the unspoken, anxiety drops and connection blooms. ๐ŸŒฑ

A huge thank you to the incredible cohort who joined us for this transformative experiential learning!

How do we move from resistance to readiness? ๐ŸŒฑ

Last weekend, mental health professionals, therapists, and group facilitators gathered for an incredible Psychodrama Singapore Skills Training Workshop: "From Warm-Up to Trust", trained by Sharmini Winslow.

Too often, hesitation in therapy or group settings is labeled as "resistance." But as psychodrama pioneer Zerka T. Moreno beautifully put it: "Resistance is not opposition; it is a lack of warm-up."

During this highly experiential session, our attendees explored the transformative power of:

โœจ Doubling: A relational technique to build emotional readiness and give voice to the unspoken.

โœจ Role Reversal & Timelines: Deepening empathy and restoring hope by stepping into life across different times and perspectives.

โœจ Moving from Image to Action: Integrating creative, embodied actions to turn insights into sustainable change.

A huge thank you to everyone who brought their authentic selves to the space. The vulnerability, learning, and connection were truly inspiring to witness!

How do we talk about the things we find hardest to say? ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ

Last week at The Foundry, our community gathered to do exactly that. Dr Terry Spokes, Clinical Director at The Winslow (the residential addiction treatment arm of Promises Healthcare), spoke at an incredibly impactful event: "The Elephant in the Room" organized by The Helping Hand (ๆดๆ‰‹ไน‹ๅฎถ). ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

This campaign was designed to break down the walls of stigma and hidden struggles surrounding addiction. Dr Terry shared his insights to an engaged room of healthcare professionals about understanding how addiction presents itself today, and most importantly, how we can better support individuals and their families through the recovery process.

The engaged questions, shared reflections, and genuine desire to learn from everyone in the room were truly inspiring. It is always a privilege to connect with practitioners and community members who are dedicated to recovery-focused work. ๐Ÿ’œ

We stand by a simple truth: reducing stigma begins with informed, compassionate conversations. Thank you to everyone who showed up to learn, share, and support. Take a look at some of our favorite moments from the event below! ๐Ÿ‘‡

What should parents say when A-Level results are not up to "expectations"? ๐Ÿ‘‡

For families in Singapore, the release of the GCE A-Level results is a monumental day. But if the grades fall short of expectations, it can feel emotionally overwhelming for a teenager. How you react will deeply impact their ability to bounce back.

Our Promises Healthcare clinical team frequently works with families navigating academic disappointment. We've created a comprehensive Parent's Guide to help you manage this delicate situation.

โœ… Pause the problem-solving. Do not immediately start planning alternative routes. Let them process the emotion first.

โœ… Validate, don't dismiss. Avoid saying "It's fine." Instead, say, "It makes sense that you are upset."

โœ… Be their safe harbor. "Your calm presence is the strongest foundation they have to process their disappointment." โ€“ Chong Kai Wei, Senior Psychotherapist.

How can parents help their children navigate life after A-Level results? ๐Ÿ‘‡

The A-Level results are out, and for many families in Singapore, this week marks a massive transition. If your child's results were not what they hoped for, your reaction will heavily influence their ability to bounce back.

Our Promises Healthcare clinical team frequently helps youths navigate academic disappointment and transition anxiety. We've put together a guide on what families should do after the results are released:

โœ… Give them 48 hours to process. Don't rush into fixing the problem immediately.

โœ… Broaden the definition of success. Explore polytechnic routes, different university courses, or gap years together.

โœ… Watch for signs of clinical anxiety. Disappointment is normal, but persistent hopelessness requires professional support.

"Your A-Level results are just a coordinate on your life's map, not your final destination." โ€“ Rachel Francis, Therapist

๐Ÿšจ V**e. Drugs. Alcohol. Addictions. ๐Ÿšจ

Itโ€™s the conversation we know we need to have, but often donโ€™t know how to start.

These are the "elephants in the room" affecting our families, friends, and clients. Because of the shame attached to addiction, many suffer in silence - both those struggling with substance use and the loved ones trying to care for them.

Tonight, we are partnering with The Helping Hand (ๆดๆ‰‹ไน‹ๅฎถ) for an essential Expert Dialogue to break that silence.

Join Dr Terry Spokes, Clinical Director at The Winslow (the residential addiction treatment arm of Promises Healthcare Group), as he unpacks:

๐Ÿ”Ž Why we use substances to fill the voids within us.
๐Ÿ”Ž How to effectively speak about and support recovery in those we love.
๐Ÿ”Ž How to protect our own mental health and strength as caregivers.

There is no shame in seeking understanding. Let's learn how to support each other better. ๐Ÿ’œ

A-Level Results Day 2026 Singapore: How to support your child through exam disappointment. ๐Ÿ‘‡

On 27th February 2026, thousands of JC and MI students will receive their GCE A-Level results. As parents and family members, how can you help them navigate this highly stressful day?

Our Senior Educational Psychologist, Woo Mei Hui from Promises Healthcare emphasizes that students do not need a "perfect reaction" - they just need a safe space to process their emotions.

Here is a gentle checklist for the family:
โœ… Encourage them to eat something simple (like toast or porridge) to give their brain glucose for emotional regulation.

โœ… Let them decide their first 30 minutes after getting results - whether that is quiet time alone, or grabbing bubble tea.

โœ… Remind them to delay big decisions for 24 hours. Eat, sleep, and talk first.

If the results are not what they hoped for, do not invalidate their feelings. Even if you think "it is not a big deal," their emotions make sense to them.

Scroll through our carousel for practical coping skills.

If your child is experiencing panic attacks or dark thoughts, our clinicians are here to provide a safe, confidential space.

Love isnโ€™t always fireworks. Sometimes, itโ€™s just showing up for yourself. ๐Ÿ’œ

Everywhere we look today, we see messages about "perfect" love.
But at Promises Healthcare, we know the reality is often more complex.

For some, Valentine's Day is a celebration.
For others, itโ€™s a reminder of loss, a trigger for anxiety, or just a day where the silence feels a little louder.

If you are struggling today, we want you to know:
โœจ Your worth is not measured by your relationship status.
โœจ Your grief or sadness does not make you "broken."
โœจ Prioritizing your mental peace is a valid way to celebrate.

Swipe through for a reminder of the love that matters most - the one that starts within. ๐Ÿ‘‰

Tired of Fighting About Screen Time? ๐Ÿ“ฑ๐Ÿ’ฅ

Is screentime the constant battle in your home? Screens are the symptom, not the source. Why taking away the phone or iPad might miss the point.

Itโ€™s easy to see the device as the enemy, but Senior Psychotherapist Chong Kaiwei from Promises Healthcare suggests we look deeper. ๐Ÿ”Ž

She shares her insights with The Straits Times and explains that while screens are often the most visible source of family tension, they are rarely the root cause. Addressing the issue isn't just about confiscating devices - itโ€™s about understanding why theyโ€™ve become so vital to the childโ€™s world. ๐Ÿซถ

By decoding what screen use represents; whether it's an escape, a coping mechanism, or a need for connection - we open the door to meaningful change, rather than just power struggles. โค๏ธ

๐Ÿคณ From Screen Time to Crime? The Psychology of Digital Addiction. ๐Ÿ˜–

The path from "innocent scrolling" to high-risk behavior is often fueled by the very algorithms designed to keep us engaged.

In The Straits Times feature, our Senior Clinical Psychologist, Dr Sandor Heng, breaks down the shared mechanisms between problematic screen use and compulsive consumption. ๐Ÿซจ

He explains how engagement-driven platforms can act as "cue priming," reinforcing novelty-seeking behavior that - in vulnerable individuals, can escalate into dangerous territory. โ€ผ๏ธ
