不是井里没有水,而是挖得不够深。
It's not that there's no water in the well, but that it hasn't been dug deep enough.
A simple sentence but it contains so much wisdom about living a good life. And mind you, life is indeed short, and so easily taken for granted, and therefore wasted unconsciously.
If you are the kind who digs only a few feet and gives up easily, then no matter where you dig, you'll never find a well that bears water.
Do you know of people around you who get started on something (hobby, exercise, business, anything...) with a bang and then trailed off to a silence nothingness? Like the Chinese saying goes: has a head but no tail.
That's akin to starting to dig a well, but give up before the depth is reached for water to sprout out.
That's Perseverance, or the lack of it.
While perseverance is necessary, it isn't enough.
Do you know of persistent individuals who keep up the digging but their digging skill sucks, or they are digging with a spoon rather than a pick axe?
Working hard alone won't get us success. Working right and smart does. Productivity depends on having the right skills and using the right tools. That means the willingness to Learn and Practise till you are effective.
So we gotta have Perseverance to dig long enough + the Willingness to Learn to dig effectively to get to the water (prosperity).
The water (prosperity) is eagerly waiting for each of us. Keep digging!
