In a recent TODAY interview with Ms Deborah Ng, our Principal Counsellor, Mr James Chong, spoke about the rise of dark humour on social media.

He explained that dark humour may serve as a way to release tension without sounding too heavy. In his words, “If I can laugh at it, it has less power over me.”

Yet, Mr Chong also cautioned that dark humour can backfire. When jokes leave us feeling worse instead of lighter, or when they reinforce hopelessness, they stop being helpful. Over time, such humour may even affect how we view ourselves and push others away.

Used in balance, dark humour can build connection. But when overused, it may become a barrier that prevents healing.

We are grateful to CNA for raising awareness on this important issue. You can read the full feature here: https://www.channelnewsasia.com/today/mental-health-matters/dark-jokes-morbid-social-media-youth-pain-healing-mental-health-5339731

Yesterday, The Lion Mind organised a Community of Practice for Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) practitioners.

This initiative brought together CBT psychotherapists to engage in reflective practice, share perspectives, and exchange practical strategies for the application of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy in the Singapore context.

By fostering professional dialogue and collaboration, we aim to strengthen the psychotherapy community and enhance the quality of mental health support for our clients.

We extend our appreciation to all practitioners who participated and contributed to the meaningful discussions. Together, we continue to advance our shared commitment to promoting mental well-being.
