🌈☀️A Rare Sight: The Sun Halo in Singapore☀️🌈
Yesterday, around 2 PM+, I experienced something truly extraordinary—a rare Sun Halo right here in Singapore! At first glance, I thought it was a rainbow, but it was a circular rainbow around the sun, known as a Sun Halo. It was my first time witnessing this spectacular phenomenon, and it left me in complete awe.
The sun was incredibly glaring, making it hard to keep my eyes open, and I did my best to capture the moment with my camera.
According to The Straits Times (15 March 2025), a Sun Halo forms when sunlight interacts with ice crystals in the atmosphere. These crystals come from thin, high-altitude clouds made of ice rather than water droplets. The last time a Sun Halo was sighted in Singapore was on 22 September 2020, making this truly rare.
Inspired by this breathtaking experience, I used it as the prompt for last evening’s SLOW WeTANGLE2gether Circle. Our prompt was a string with three concentric circles, and my tile was inspired by the photo I took of the Sun Halo partially hidden by the tree.
The Sun Halo is often associated with good luck, and I’d like to believe that good things are on their way—not just for me, but for Singapore too! During our session, Sandra, who’s based in Switzerland, shared that Sun Halos (and even Moon Halos) are more common there. It was fascinating to learn how something so rare here can be a regular sight elsewhere in the world.
This experience reminded me of the beauty of nature and the joy of connecting with others, even across continents.
Here’s to rare moments, shared inspiration, and the hope of brighter days ahead!
