Traditionally, UTI is diagnosed with urinalysis followed by urine culture. However, this method has some challenges. For one, it takes a 1 - 2 days to get results. Additionally, the limited sensitivity of urine culture may not detect low levels of bacteria in the urine. There's also a risk of false negatives (30-50%) due to contamination or inadequate urine collection.

That's where PCR comes in. PCR is a rapid diagnostic test that can detect UTI-causing bacteria with high sensitivity and specificity. It detects slow growing or difficult to culture pathogens. PCR results can be obtained in just a few hours, allowing for prompt treatment and better patient outcomes.

We are proud to announce that our ViroKey® MPXV PCR Test has added E9L as a new gene target, in addition to J2R.

Several monkeypox virus (MPXV) cases have recently been reported as false-negative due to a rare tumor necrosis factor (TNF) deletion in the specimens. To prevent false-negative results, U.S. CDC now recommends testing laboratories to use a multiplex assay that targets multiple genes, or an assay that targets an essential viral gene that is unlikely to mutate or an assay that detects non-variola Orthopoxviruses.

With the E9L gene target, our assay can now detect non-variola Orthopoxviruses, a genus which MPXV belongs to. Combined with the MPXV-specific J2R gene target, this assay provides a highly reliable and accurate solution for efficient detection of MPXV.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month ( ) is an annual international health campaign held every October to increase awareness about breast cancer, one of the most common cancers in women.
