Do you spend a long time looking down your smart devices daily?
Who doesn’t right?
My friend, Jeffrey Looi visited me at my office Family Health Chiropractic Clinic SG and spent an hour watching a movie on his phone while waiting for me. Shortly, his neck started hurting.
Sounds familiar?
Did you know?
On average, an adult skull weighs about 12 pounds (~5.5kg). But when you look down and watch your Netflix, check your emails or catch up with LinkedIn posts, the weight can increase to 50 pounds (~ 23kg) very quickly.
That is a lot of stress to your neck and their corresponding muscles!
Do this for half an hour or so, your neck muscles will start to protest.
Repeat this everyday, your neck will start to hurt. Many wonders why.
I see a lot of such cases in my office: Neck pain due to excessive use of smart devices.
Most people think the aches and pains will go away. In some cases yes, perhaps if you can take an extended break from your devices.
But for most, spinal misalignments are starting to happen quietly, and this can lead to persistent pains later. Now, such pains will not miraculously go ahead. They usually need some chiropractic corrections, as I have seen very often in my office.
Two small habits can make a big difference:
1. Raise your smart devices to your eye level.
2. Take a break every 20 minutes, look up somewhere far away for at least 20 seconds
Do this.
Your spine will thank you.
Otherwise, your spine will need you to give me a call. Might as well save my contact just in case.
Or you can take a proactive action by getting your posture or spine checked before the protest starts. Just DM me, and I’ll be happy to chat.
Be honest : how many hours a day do you think you spend looking down at your phone? Comment below!
