𝗟𝗲𝘁'𝘀 𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗸 𝗕𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵! 🦴

Ever wondered if your bones are as strong as they should be? Here's something that might surprise you: osteoporosis isn't just an "older woman's problem". It can actually sneak up on anyone, regardless of age or gender!

This morning, our very own Dr Richard Lee chatted with 96.3好FM's host Ong Teck Ming about this sneaky condition that is often called the "silent disease." Dr Lee, who leads Family Medicine Development at National Healthcare Group Polyclinics and is an Associate Professor at NTU Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, shared some eye-opening insights we thought you'd want to hear about.

Here's the thing: osteoporosis can quietly develop without any warning signs until... ouch! A fracture happens. That is why Dr Lee encourages everyone, especially women after menopause and men over 65, to get checked even if they feel perfectly fine.

The good news is, you can do so much to protect your bones! Whether you're in your 20s or your 70s, simple things like taking regular walks, climbing stairs, getting enough calcium and vitamin D, and saying no to ci******es can make a real difference for your future self.

Dr Lee's advice? Start today by incorporating simple exercises into your routine. Your bones will thank you later!

For years, knee pain slowed Madam Huang Xiaoling’s pace of life, turning simple outings into exhausting journeys and affecting not just her mobility, but also her mood and family relationships.

Even after surgery on one knee, pain later developed in the other, disrupting her sleep and daily routines. Yet she did not stop stepping out. She continued attending activities at her neighbourhood Active Ageing Centre, where she learned about CONNACT Plus, NHG Health’s community rehabilitation programme for knee osteoarthritis.

Through the programme, Madam Huang gained practical tools to manage pain, strengthen her body and reflect on her emotional wellbeing. She learned how chronic pain had affected her emotions, and how to better regulate them. Slowly, her confidence returned, along with stronger family relationships.

Today, exercise is part of her daily life. She stretches every morning, goes to the gym with her husband, swims regularly, lost about 7kg, and no longer relies on painkillers. Most importantly, she has regained control of her life.

Now, Madam Huang shares her journey with others in her community, encouraging them not to stop living because of pain.

“Take it slowly, give it a try — there will always be some change.”

We are proud to celebrate Dr Surendra Kumar Mantoo and Dr Mansha Khemlani from Khoo Teck Puat Hospital recipients of the Healthcare Humanity Award 2025, who exemplify what humanity-led care truly means.

NHG Health and NTU Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine) are excited to announce the launch of our next four Academic Clinical Programmes (ACPs) for Infectious Diseases, Family Medicine, Respiratory Health, and Gastrointestinal Health under the NHG Health-LKCMedicine-NTU Academic Health System (AHS)! 🎉

Building on the Skin Health and Rehabilitation Health ACPs launched earlier in January 2025, the four new ACPs will be led by esteemed and accomplished clinicians and scientists, who will leverage on the clinical strengths of NHG Health and the academic prowess of LKCMedicine/NTU. The ACPs will be bringing together multidisciplinary teams of healthcare professionals, scientists and engineers from across our institutions to further integrate research, innovation, and education with clinical care 🤝

As Singapore faces a projected up to one million Type 2 diabetes cases by 2050, NHG Health is pioneering primary care interventions to tackle this growing risk. Mr New Boon Hwee is a regular man-on-the street who completely turned his health around in an unexpected way through one such care innovation.

Diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in 2018 during a routine screening, the 57-year-old initially believed it meant lifelong medication dependency. Like many patients, he made half-hearted attempts at lifestyle changes but didn't truly commit.

The wake-up call came in 2024 when his blood sugar levels spiked dramatically within months. Watching friends and family suffer from diabetes complications made him realise "life is fragile" and motivated him to take responsibility for his health.

In October 2024, Mr Liang joined NHG Polyclinics’ Diabetes Reversal Programme, REMI-D (REMIssion in Diabetes) programme. Despite initial doubts about whether diabetes could truly be reversed, he was determined to try reducing his medication dependency.

His story demonstrates that whilst diabetes reversal is achievable, it requires genuine commitment to lifestyle changes - something that becomes more urgent when we truly understand what's at stake. Early intervention and comprehensive support programmes like REMI-D can make the difference between managing diabetes and potentially reversing it.
