9 types of Body Constitutions/ 9种体质介绍
Did you ever wonder why your body shape and other habits differ from the rest? Some people love cold drinks and always feel hot even it is cooling while some prefer to take food that is hot and cover themselves from top to toe.
Our bodies differ in many ways. In TCM, it is known as body constitution(体质), and it is an important component of individualized treatment, as well as preventive healthcare. Our body constitution is an intricate combination of our physiques, bodily functions and psychological traits.
In this 2-part series, we will share about the common types of body constitution, what affects it, and tips on preventive healthcare for the various types of body constitution.
So now, let's find out what are the common types of body constitution and which type you identify most with. Note that one person can have a combination of a few constitutions, so it is not a one size fits all case!
There are 9 common types of body constitution:
1. Balanced(平和)
2. Qi deficient(气虚)
3. Yang deficient(阳虚)
4. Yin deficient(阴虚)
5. Phlegm and dampness(痰湿)
6. Damp heat(湿热)
7. Blood stasis(血瘀)
8. Qi stagnation(气郁)
9. Allergenic(特禀)
