"What a waste of taxpayers' money training this doctor, only for him to become a chef. His precious place in medical school should have gone to someone else."

That was one of a number of angry and hurtful comments left on a Facebook post (10 years ago) by a famous Singaporean food blogger who had written about me being a doctor and a self-taught chef running a restaurant full-time.

And if I now have the chance to speak to the person who left that hurtful comment 10 years ago, I would say to him or her:

There are No Wasted Journeys:

👉 It was thanks to those 5 years I spent as a full-time chef, and using that platform to create foods to change people's minds about Food as Medicine, that I was subsequently able to reach thousands of people as a doctor, trainer, and coach, teaching and coaching them to change and improve their lifestyle habits to combat chronic diseases.
👉 My years of training and practising as a doctor didn't go to waste, neither did the 5 years I spent in the kitchen as a full-time chef.
👉 They were precious training ground to prepare me for the work I am doing today.
