Niks BB Sun Protect Contains Iron Oxides, Can Protect Darker Skin From Hyperpigmentation

Most of us know that ultraviolet light (UV) is harmful to our skin. All sunscreens contain sun-blocking ingredients that protect the skin from UV.

Fewer of us know that visible light (VL, including blue light) is also harmful to our skin, especially darker skin. After exposure to VL, hyperpigmentation and erythema in darker skin develop rapidly but resolve slowly. This is the case for all darker skin, but is particularly serious, and can be more difficult to reverse, in darker skin that already has sun damage or is at risk for hyperpigmentation from other sources, such as skin inflammation.

Sunscreens must contain iron oxides to protect the skin from VL in addition to UV. Niks BB Sun Protect, which contains iron oxides, is one example.

While other lasers based on the 1726 nm technology use pre-determined, fixed laser energies as their treatment endpoints (when to stop the laser), Accure continuingly measures the temperature of the targeted sebaceous glands as it varies its energy to work through the treatment process. As the temperature of the glands rises, there comes a point when the targeted glands have been fully destroyed and yet their surrounding tissues have remained intact. This is the best point to stop the treatment and can only be captured with Accure and not any other 1726 nm laser machines.

Our Solution for Sweaty Underarm

We share here two recent journal articles on miraDry, our solution for sweaty underarm.

In an Austrian study published in Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, 139 patients received miraDry treatments for excessive axillary hyperhidrosis (uncontrollable sweating in the armpits). 84% of the patients could effectively be treated with one single treatment, 16% required a second treatment. Tests demonstrated significant reductions in sweat severity, with 95% of patients experiencing no or minimal sweating after treatment completion. The miraDry procedure demonstrated a favourable safety profile with typical and transient treatment reactions that mostly resolved within 6 months (94.2%).

A German study published in Interdisciplinary Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery surveyed 80 hyperhidrosis patients treated with miraDry and found a significant reduction in restrictions caused by increased sweating in various areas of life and a corresponding increase in quality of life after treatment.
