Li Shizhen’s (the author of “Ben Cao Gang Mu”) father, Li Yanwen wrote the first monograph on ginseng “Ren Shen Zhuan”. It is the most related monograph to ginseng during China Ming Dynasty.
Based on his father's works, Li Shizhen compiled 67 prescriptions for wild ginseng usage, which can be applied to 15 types of diseases.
Li Shizhen described wild ginseng as “superior herb”. They are used for conditions such as feverish diseases with excessive sweating, dizziness, or headache; having poor digestion, nausea, diarrhea or vomiting; bleeding disorders, including internal hemorrhage, hemoptysis, nose bleeding, blood in the urine, and post-partum bleeding; and pregnancy disorders.
