i am yoga I am a freelance yoga teacher in Singapore. Feel free to contact me through I truly believe that yoga brings out the best in a person. Serving others?

Hi all,

I am the founder of "i am yoga” in Singapore and I have two young yogis at home (a 12-year old daughter and a 9-year old son), both of whom go to the Singapore American School. I am a Yoga Alliance certified Adult & Children’s Yoga Instructor and I love to spread the gift of yoga to everyone. I am certified in several traditional styles of Yoga including Hatha, Vinyasa, Ashtanga and Chil

dren's Yoga. I have taught at several institutions in Hong Kong & in Singapore, including the Canadian International School in Hong Kong, The American Embassy in Singapore and at the kids club Buds@Shangri-La hotel Singapore. I conduct group & private Yoga classes for adults and children in Singapore. I was introduced to yoga in my childhood and have experienced several benefits, both mental and physical. Yoga helps with Total Personality Development. It not only benefits physical health, but also enhances mental control, emotional balance and intellectual development. Yoga can also be restorative and a healing process for many with mental and physical challenges. In today’s time, the purpose of yoga has changed - many people see yoga purely as a form of physical exercise. We tend to place too much importance to our external beauty and body. How about exercising our mind along with our body? Training our thought pattern? Practicing mindfulness? Connecting with nature? All of this is part of yoga. My yoga journey taught me that yoga provides complete body awareness, focusing on the beauty within and enabling you to become a better, kinder and more patient person, both towards yourself and towards others. You feel like helping people without any expectation or judgment. You also learn to accept people and situations as they are. If you can’t do an asana perfectly today, it will happen at another time and you should be happy with the progress & effort you have made today, as this yogic learning is a life long journey. I have realized that we need to honour our body and to know our limitations. Yoga is not a competitive practice, it is our own practice and we should progress at our own pace. If you are interested, feel free to reach out to me through this page or email me on ritu.bhasin@gmail.com. I look forward to hearing from you and to having you in my yoga class. Hari Om.

Maha bandha is a yoga practice that involves simultaneously activating three major bandhas or energy locks, to create a powerful seal. It is also known as the great lock, triple lock or supreme lock.

What are the 3 locks in yogic practise?

1. Mula Bandha/the root lock ~ practice that involves contracting and lifting the pelvic floor muscles.

2. Jalandhara Bandha/ the throat lock ~ a yoga pose that involves locking the throat to regulate the flow of energy in the neck

3. Uddiyana Bandha/abdominal lock ~ involves contracting the abdominal muscles to move energy upwards, lifting of the diaphragm

How to practise Maha bandha?

1. Exhale completely
2. Engage the Mula bandha (root lock)
3. Activate the Jalandhara bandha (chin lock)
4. Bend forward and engage the Uddiyana bandha (abdominal lock)
5. Hold the locks and retain your breath for as long as you are comfortable
6. Release the locks in the reverse order

The spine can tell you a lot about your emotional physical and mental wellbeing.
Yoga practitioners say “you are as young as your spine is flexible”

Asanas such as these can give you a strong vertebrae, flexible spinal ligaments, cushiony discs and strong back muscles.

Simply wanted to share a magical moment from Beliche beach at Algarve. I could not stop myself from having a yoga asana in front of these magnificent cliffs.

Beliche beach is located in Sagres and is the southwestern tip of Europe. People believed it to be the world’s end up to 1400’s.

Must admit, grounding and balancing feet on a stony surface was tad challenging:)

Krounchasana or Heron pose ~

You can train yourself to be flexible!

Muscle flexibility is the ability of a muscle to lengthen allowing one (or more than one joint in a series) to move through its range of motion.

Initially in my yoga journey, I was not very flexible, but through consistent yoga practise I became a lot more flexible and also gained more strength.

Lengthening the muscle or stretching prevents injury, improves recovery from injury and can positively impact your physical performance before undertaking any sporting activity.

So always include stretching pre and post workout!

Hats off to you Shivani (a professional, mom of 2 young daughters, family person) keeps up with her yoga practise no matter how crazy things get. Sometimes there are situations in life where she has to take a step back in her yoga practise, but she never gives up and keeps moving forward with her amazing willpower and strength to achieve her best potential, which is true progress. Thank you for your hard work and dedication! 💖 🙏✨

Headstand with eagle legs/Sirsasana Pada Garudasana - This practise to me is not just about standing on the head, but more about calming the mind. That is the essence of yoga practise. Practising inversions also has many medical benefits- increases blood flow to the brain, giving it more oxygen and making the brain work faster and better. It also improves concentration, memory and boosts clarity of thinking. Simply enjoy it! 💖✨😇✌️
