Self-Injury Awareness Month 2026
Self-injury, also known as self-harm, is often misunderstood.
Behind the behaviour is usually emotional pain, not a desire to seek attention or to be manipulative. Self-injury is linked to mental health challenges such as depression, anxiety, trauma, and unfulfilled emotional needs such as loneliness or numbness.
People who self-injure typically struggle with these intense emotions, and struggle to regain a sense of control, or simply trying to survive a difficult moment.
Today, we wish to acknowledge those who have lived experience of self-injury. At the same time, we wish to emphasise that recovery is possible. No one has to struggle alone, and we are here for you.
Let's create spaces where conversations about mental health are safe, compassionate, and stigma-free.
