🎀 October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month 🎀

Breast cancer has one of the highest cure rates when detected and treated early. 💪

This month, we’re reminding all women to stay proactive about their health:
✅ Schedule your regular breast self-exam
✅ Go for your mammogram screening
✅ Consult your doctor if you notice any changes

Early detection saves lives. Let’s take charge together. 💖

People with an abnormal breast lump should seek medical care, even if the lump does not hurt.
Most breast lumps are not cancer.

Breast lumps that are cancerous are more likely to be successfully treated when they are small and have not spread to nearby lymph nodes.

At OncoCare, our patients inspire us every day. They remind us that healing goes beyond medicine, through compassion and human connection.

One such story is that of Mr Soh Kim Hai, a patient of Dr Valerie Yang, Senior Medical Oncologist at OncoCare. Diagnosed with Stage IV soft tissue sarcoma, Mr Soh faced significant medical, emotional, and psychological challenges.

Throughout his treatment, Mr Soh found peace and purpose in painting, a form of expression that brought hope and joy amid uncertainty.

Recently, he shared one of his artworks with President Tharman Shanmugaratnam at the NCCS Gala, a meaningful moment showing how art and resilience can inspire hope.

💬 “Stories like Allan’s remind us that every encounter in cancer care is an opportunity to connect, to listen, and to grow together.” — Dr Valerie Yang

We are honoured that our Senior Medical Oncologist, Dr Kevin Tay, was featured together with our patient, Mr Andrew Carmichael, in The Straits Times (24 Sept 2025, Living Well).

This special feature brings readers closer to the long journey of living with cancer — a path filled with challenges, but also with strength, resilience, and hope.

Andrew’s story is one of courage. Diagnosed with leukaemia in 2021, with his white cell count more than 10 times the norm, he recalls his toughest time as “the initial fight to stay alive.” Today, with treatment and support, he continues to live a meaningful and purposeful life.

At OncoCare, many of our patients with advanced-stage cancer walk this same path. We are deeply privileged to journey alongside them — not only as doctors, but as partners in care, every step of the way. ❤️

Almost 10 years ago, Madam Sri Rahayu Djowto was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and given just months to live.

With the care of Dr Tay Miah Hiang from OncoCare and the unwavering support of her loved ones, she continues to defy the odds and live meaningfully.

✨ “I still have so many things to do and I want to enjoy life meaningfully.”
– Madam Sri Rahayu

Her journey is a reminder of hope and the impact of compassionate cancer care.

🏋️‍♂️ Can cancer patients exercise during treatment?
Yes! It can make a big difference.

64-year-old Mr Zhang, diagnosed with lymphoma three years ago, didn’t let cancer stop him. With guidance, he took up weight training and found it boosted not just his strength, but also his confidence and energy.

Dr Akhil Chopra, Senior Medical Oncologist at OncoCare, reminds us: exercise during treatment, when done safely and tailored to each patient, can ease side effects, improve recovery, and uplift quality of life.
