Prenatal Yoga Pose of the Week 🧘🏼‍♀️
✨ Goddess Pose ✨
Goddess Pose benefits individuals by strengthening the quadriceps, inner thighs, glutes, and core muscles, providing stability as the body changes during pregnancy. It helps to strengthen and build control in the pelvic floor muscles, which is beneficial for labour and postpartum recovery.

This pose improves hip flexibility for labour, by opening up the hips and groin, as well as opening the chest to aid respiration and posture.

Goddess Pose aids in preparing for labour and child birth, as it creates more space in the pelvis; and holding the pose for several breaths builds physical endurance. It also improves the ability to squat, a position often used during labour.
If you're 35 weeks and beyond, it's recommended to modify the pose, and stay more elevated and not to go too deep into the pose. However, if you're nearing your due date and baby is in a favourable position, and you would like to encourage baby to get moving, then by all means get low and comfortable in the pose 😉 but always prioritise your comfort and safety.

Prenatal Yoga Pose of the week 🧘🏼‍♀️
✨ Cat & Cow Pose ✨
Cat-Cow pose provides numerous benefits during pregnancy, including relieving back pain by improving spinal flexibility and strength, promoting relaxation, and helping to position baby for birth by encouraging pelvic mobility.

The gentle rhythmic movement, combined with the breath, helps to soothe the nervous system, reduce stress, and promote a sense of calm. The movement also aids in strengthening the back and pelvic floor, and can even be used as a gentle labour position.
This is a great, gentle pose that can be done throughout your pregnancy. It is also a lovely modification to come back to if there are any poses in your prenatal class that you can't do or make you uncomfortable.
On top of that, it's a versatile pose that can be done standing or seated at your desk.

✨The Role of Yoga in Stimulating/Toning the Vagus Nerve✨

Yoga practices that stimulate the areas of the body that the nerve touches (heart, lungs, throat, facial muscles, etc.) can improve the tone of the vagus nerve, and by stimulating this nerve it has a regulating effect on the mind & body.

Prenatal Yoga Pose of the Week 🧘🏼‍♀️
✨Malasana /Yogic Squat / Garland Pose✨
Malasana offers several benefits during pregnancy. It's a unique pose in that it opens up both the top and bottom of the pelvis at the same time. It helps open the hips and groin, which can become tight as the baby grows; relieving tension in the lower back; and strengthening into the pelvic floor; all of which are particularly helpful during pregnancy and childbirth.
If you are 35 weeks or more, or have placenta previa, we advise you to use a block or bolster under your sit bones for added support.

The Vagus Nerve, also referred to as the "wandering nerve", is the longest nerve that runs through the body & touches all your organs, including your womb.

When stimulated or toned it helps with:
- Regulation of heart & respiratory functions
- Maintaining a healthy & balanced immune response
- Supporting digestive health
- Mental health & emotional well-being
- Inflammation control
- Sending bidirectional sensory & motor information between the uterus & the brain

Read my blog post for more in depth information on how yoga can help with toning your vagus nerve, and switching from "fight-or-flight" to calm, relaxation.
