If you are the sort of person people describe as "resilient", you are the one who handles the pressure, absorbs the shockwaves, and keeps everything moving forward.

It is a great compliment. But in week 7 of our video series, I want to challenge your relationship with that word.

Often, what high-functioning people call resilience is actually just endurance. ๐Ÿค”

The difference lies in the recovery. True resilience requires you to put the weight down once the crisis has passed so you can return to your centre.

Endurance is the normalisation of never putting the weight down. It is bracing yourself for a difficult period and then deciding to live in that braced, tense state permanently. It runs entirely on your emergency reserves.

While endurance might look like strength to everyone else, on the inside, it is an incredibly brittle way to live. ๐Ÿ˜ข

We love to praise people for their resilience. But sometimes, that praise traps us.

You know you should be happy, on paper, everything looks good. But you just feel empty and tired most of the time. ๐Ÿ˜•

In Week 6 of our video series, I am addressing this emotional flatness.

I want to completely remove the guilt you feel about this, because this emptiness is not a character flaw. It is a mechanical consequence of how you ๐˜€๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐˜ƒ๐—ถ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ.

To manage the high levels of stress and pressure in your life, you have had to learn to shut down your internal distress signals. You closed the lid on them so you could keep functioning. ๐Ÿคฏ

There is a very specific type of guilt that capable people carry.

It is the guilt of looking at a life that is objectively great on paper:

and feeling absolutely nothing. '

You know you should be happy, but mostly, you just feel empty.

When people ask how you are, you say you are "fine." And you mean it. Because to you, "fine" means there are no fires to put out today.

Many of us have a voice in our heads that speaks up when we are tired, or hungry, or need a break.

But for the high-functioning person, that voice is often labeled as "disruptive." ๐Ÿ˜•

We think: "Not now. I have things to do. Don't be selfish."

Why does this happen?

It isn't because we don't have needs. It's because we learned, often a long time ago, that ignoring our needs was the best way to survive and be "good." ๐Ÿ˜‡

We chose over . And it worked... until it didn't.
