A group of 24 dedicated volunteers gathered for a meaningful four-hour Foundational Training under the Silver Guardian initiative. Conducted by HMI and sponsored by the Agency for Integrated Care (AIC), the session marked an important milestone in equipping volunteers with essential skills and insights to better serve the community.
The atmosphere throughout the afternoon was one of enthusiasm and camaraderie. Many of the participants were senior volunteers, whose eagerness to learn and deepen their impact was both inspiring and heartening. Their presence reflected a strong commitment to continuous growth and service, proving that the spirit of volunteering knows no age.
A particularly moving segment of the training invited volunteers to share their personal journeys—how and why they chose to volunteer. These heartfelt stories created a space of mutual understanding and connection, as participants discovered shared motivations rooted in compassion, purpose, and community care. Building on these reflections, the trainer skillfully guided the group toward best practices in volunteering, helping them translate passion into effective and sustainable action.
The training was thoughtfully designed to be interactive and practical, encouraging participants to engage actively with both the content and one another. Through discussions and guided exercises, volunteers gained valuable knowledge on how to support seniors more effectively, uphold ethical standards, and respond with empathy in various situations.
By the end of the session, the group had not only acquired new skills but also strengthened their sense of mission. The afternoon was marked by meaningful learning, renewed inspiration, and a shared commitment to making a difference in the lives of others.
The Silver Guardian Foundational Training stands as a testament to the power of community collaboration—bringing together dedicated partners like HMI and AIC, and passionate individuals who are ready to serve. With enhanced capabilities and a strengthened sense of purpose, these 24 volunteers are now even better equipped to contribute positively to the well-being of seniors in our community.
