Hands* up who’s ready for CELL BLOCK 69 at the OXFORD ART ARENA.

Just one short month until the world’s greatest 80s band play ALL THE HITS that were stolen from them by unscrupulous artists from Billy Idol to the Bangles from Dexy’s Midnight Runners to Duran Duran. Sure to be another year of the greatest event known to humanity! And it’s their last ever show ... again.

I WANT MY CELL BLOCK 69 - 2 sets of hits by Cell Block 69. Special Guest DJ Corey Knuckles. At the world’s most underground stadium Oxford Art Arena this February!

Photos by the very talented “Corey” Roberts at the Basement Party Arena, Friday Dec 19. Yep, all on the one night. That’s a lot of songs/singers/costumes/guitars/wigs. And they’re all coming to Sydney

Sapphire Coast people! Jen and I have been officially living here for almost a year now. And next week I get to play my first full gig as a resident!*

These talented people have been doing it since COUNTDOWN was on TV (well some of them at least), and are bringing their sweet chops and giant voices, and a set list that is so good and sooo much fun to play. They might even let me have a little sing.

Sat Jan 3 at Club Sapphire. Come and have a dance and ask Paul all your favourite wiggles questions!

*A song last Easter with Dune Rats doesn’t count. Neither does singing to our horses.

Here some rad bands and tunes I’ve been listening to or got to see live this year, as well as some fun little mental health stuff for anyone wondering why I haven’t been on air recently.

As I said to Browny from Wall Of Sound, “The benefits of me doing stuff late is that I overcompensate by getting a bit too personal. So it's a win for everyone!”

https://www.wallofsoundau.com/news/2025-year-in-review-by-frenzal-rhombs-lindsay-mcdougall

I’ll chuck some links to the bands and artists in the comments as soon as I’ve fed the horses and let the chickens out.

"We've never done an album anniversary tour until last year, because unlike other bands we know that no album is 100% good front to back... BUT we realised that our very accepting and beautiful audience don't really care. So maybe we'll do another one of those. But not for that album, you know the one. We'll never do that album."

What's Frenzal Rhomb cooking up in 2026?

Apologies to anyone who needs a single bed frame. I have a single need: to ROCK.*

Cori Sambori is putting on the wigs & lycras and hitting the stage with CELL BLOCK 69 next Friday and Saturday the 19th & 20th of December for the first shows of the “FINAL SHOW EVER™” tour – LIVE in Canberra AT THE BASO PARTY ARENA!

CELL BLOCK 69’s final ever shows will see the ‘Coraboration’ (noun 1. A collaboration of Coreys) venture into uncharted but very well charting styles of instrumentationalistic radtasm.

Showcasing an even more magnificent portion of their stolen hits, it’s the same kind of instrumentationalistic radtasm you know of Corey, but different and mega totally in the way you’d expect to be surprised by Cell Block 69!

And if that doesn’t make sense like nothing does, CELL BLOCK 69!

We know where the party’s at!!!

Tix for Friday 19th and Saturday 20th December available in bio. And in 1985.

*I also need to rock safely so if you’re a chippie or similarly ticketed tradie please let me know how solid this thing looks.

12 hours in the middle of the continent, for once not being the silliest band on the bill.

Ft. breathtaking vistas, iconic sunsets, metal meets aerial hoop meets some bloke taped up there with a 9 string guitar, and a burning pipe organ. Thanks !

Sydney, we’re coming home! (We won’t play that song though)

As Frenzal Rhomb’s A Man’s Not A Camel 25th-ish Anniversary Regional-ish tour reels towards its rowdy end, something somewhat relaxed and respectable is coming to Crowbar Sydney on Friday September 26: The Jay & Lindsay Variety Hour (and a bit)!

Featuring all the hits and several memories from Frenzal and associated sonic explorations, The Jay & Lindsay Variety Hour (and a bit) is an intimate and acoustic musical meander interspersed with special guests, stories behind the songs, and awkward silences as Jay works out what fret to put the capo on.

We’ve also got the keys-led punk/folk/rock stylings of Ess-Em and Balkan/Klezmer/Tango enthusiasts Patina along for the ride as well, and it’s Jay’s birthday week, so pop in for a drink, a sing, a drink, and to finally hear Frenzal lyrics at a decipherable volume and tempo! (Actually that may be unhelpful. Also I’m not sure any Self-Righteous Brothers songs are legal in 2025.)

The Jay & Lindsay Variety Hour (and a bit), Friday September 26 at Crowbar Sydney. See it before lawyers shut us down!

Also it’s free.

But click here anyway:

Happy Father’s Day! RIP Dad.

Peter McAllister McDougall, our Dad, left this world in July, after ninety full and glorious years. Many commemorated with cake (pictured).

He was with Gavan, Andy & I and went peacefully, only a few months after celebrating his birthday at home with us.

I’ve written a few things about Dad over the last couple on months, but my lasting impression of this extremely formal and proper person, was how progressive he was and continued to be.

His outlook on the world and what he held to be true wasn’t formed and fashioned from being born in North Queensland in 1935, but continually evolved because of the life he lived and the people he surrounded himself with.

Not caught on tradition for the sake of it, he understood the idea of “respect” as it applied to just being nice to people, being kind, being generous, because that’s what’s his life had taught him.

(thanks for magically turning my uni fund into a Gibson SG and Marshall amp)

A true gentleman, that’s how Jen describes him, in the realest sense of the words.

He will be greatly missed by his children, grandchildren, in-laws and many friends he has made throughout his long and glorious life. A life Peter himself recounted in a 2020 memoir. (Still available on Amazon).

If you’ve got a record player, put on Now I’m Easy by Eric Bogle and think of Peter, who loved Eric’s music and was also briefly his boss when they were both accountants. Or watch the Bucket B**g video clip.

Happy National Science Week to all those who celebrate. A week seemingly of me staring weirdly and gesturing strangely at people heaps smarter and better educated than me.

Now with added experiments! At the Science Space with ambassadors and thongs, sticking my finger in a Veggie Meter with predictably scientific results, and learning that Pippettes are a science thing, not the children of Gladys Knight’s backing band.

All sourced, sorted and served up by the Superstar Of Science, Dr Theresa Larkin, who wrangled researchers, leaned on lecturers, pleaded with professors and solicited students to come and blow my mind and the minds of ABC Illawarra listeners in 10-15 minute increments, whether at the studio or on campus at our Outstanding Outside Broadcast.

Cheers to all the science people who let me sully their serene scientific situations.

Listen back to it all at the ABC Illawarra website or the listen app for the next couple of weeks before it all disappears forever (because no scientific breakthrough will ever get my show properly archived by the ABC).

Photos and videos by Ass Prof Theresa Larkin and the phone I balanced awkwardly on a computer monitor.

HAPPY NERD CHRISTMAS!
