FREUD "NO HANDBOOKS TO LIFE"
I must confess that I am not at all partial to the fabrication of worldviews. Such activities may be left to philosophers, who avowedly find it impossible to make their journey through life without a Baedeker of that kind to give them information on every subject.
Let us humbly accept the contempt with which they look down on us from the vantage-ground of their superior needs. But since we cannot forgo our narcissistic pride either, we will draw comfort from the reflection that such ‘Handbooks to Life’ soon grow out of date and that it is precisely our short-sighted, narrow and finicky work which obliges them to appear in new editions, and that even the most up-to-date of them are nothing but attempts to find a substitute for the ancient, useful and all- sufficient Church Catechism.
We know well enough how little light science has so far been able to throw on the problems that surround us. But however much ado the philosophers may make, they cannot alter the situation. Only patient, persevering research, in which everything is subordinated to the one requirement of certainty, can gradually bring about a change.
The benighted traveller may sing aloud in the dark to deny his own fears; but, for all that, he will not see an inch further beyond his nose.

Here we are, then, in a position to reply now to the question - when does anxiety emerge? Anxiety emerges when a mechanism makes something appear in the place of what I'm going to call, to make myself understood, a natural place, namely, the place of (- phi), which corresponds, on the right-hand side, to the place that is occupied, on the left-hand side, by the a of the object of desire. I say something-you should understand anything whatsoever.

ANXIETY

Here we are, then, in a position to reply now to the question - when does anxiety emerge? Anxiety emerges when a mechanism makes something appear in the place of what I'm going to call, to make myself understood, a natural place, namely, the place of (- phi), which corresponds, on the right-hand side, to the place that is occupied, on the left-hand side, by the a of the object of desire. I say something-you should understand anything whatsoever.
Before next time, I would ask you to take the trouble to reread with this introduction I'm giving you here - Freud's article on the Unheimliche. It's an article that I've never heard anyone comment on and no one seems to have noticed that it's indispensable for broaching the question of anxiety. Just as I broached the unconscious with the Witz, this year I'm going to be broaching anxiety with the Unheimliche

Razlika pri ravnanju s transfarjem v psihoanalizi in psihoterapiji.

How does the use of transference in psychoanalysis differ from that which is in play in psychotherapies?

The answer is entirely on the side of the analyst. Everything depends upon how he/she will handle it, a handling that is closely related to the desire of the analyst – the compass for analytical practices, which is constantly reinvigorated by supervision. The stakes are important: to allow, for the analysand, the passage from the transferential unconscious to the real unconscious. In short, how does one pass from the analysis of the Freudian Unbewust to that of the Lacanian l’Une-bévue?

This turnaround is in no way spontaneous. It never takes place during a simple practice of listening, however technical it may be. In the cure, one of the key moments of this turn is obtained by the mode of presence of the analyst as much as by the answers in acts with which he or she confronts the complaints and requests of the analysand. This handling counteracts the transferential slope (whether harmonious or discordant), a slope to which the analysand systematically invites the analyst. Far from any harmony, it is a question of obtaining and maintaining a maximum gap between the ideals (I) that animate the analysand – reciprocal love is one of them – and the drive object (a) which disturbs and divides the analysand as a sexual reality of the unconscious. To this end, the analyst will attempt, often without words, to incarnate and impose this object that the analysand refuses to take into account.

Fantasy is defined by the most general form it receives in an algebra I have constructed for this purpose — namely, the formula ($a) in which the lozenge () is to be read as "desire for," being read right to left in the same way, introducing an identity that is based on an absolute non-reciprocity.

SPEECH: A PRESENCE MADE OF ABSENCE
Through the word—which is already a presence made of absence— absence itself comes to be named in an original moment whose perpetual re- creation Freud's genius detected in a child's game. And from this articulated couple of presence and absence [...] a language's [langue] world of meaning is born, in which the world of things will situate itself.

The opaque brutality of life

The opaque brutality of life

“The famous traumatism where it started, the famous primitive scene that enters into the economy of the subject and plays at the heart and horizon of the discovery of the unconscious, what is it? – if not a signifier whose incidence on life I just now began to articulate. The living being is grasped as living, insofar as living, but with this gap, this distance, which is precisely that which constitutes the autonomy of the signifying dimension as well as traumatism or the primal scene. So what is it? If it is not that life that grasps itself in a horrible apperception of itself, of its total foreignness, in its opaque brutality, as a pure signifier for an intolerable existence of life itself, as soon as it veers off revealing the traumatism and the primal scene. It is what appears of life to itself as signifier in its pure state and which can in no way, articulate or resolve itself.”
