I received an email and an order for Kürtős bakery mix from one of our customers in Denmark, who takes part in a large Halloween festival every year. Over time, our customers have created some fantastic Halloween-inspired chimney cakes and cones, and I thought I’d share a few of my favourites.

Avoid These Common Mistakes When Making Kürtőskalács! 🔥

One of the biggest mistakes we see is customers using too much oil and applying the sugar incorrectly.

👉 When there's too much oil, it can seep between the ribbons of dough — and that causes your kürtos to fall apart during baking. Plus, the excess oil drips down into the machine, making a sticky mess and adding extra cleaning time. 😓

👉 As for sugar — remember: only apply it to the dough, not the wooden roll! Sugar on the wood can burn, stick, and mess with your bake.

These classic Austrian and German treats are usually puff pastry tubes filled with whipped cream, Bavarian cream, or meringue.

One of our creative customers in Austria has put a unique twist on the idea—by making mini Kürtőskalács and filling them with his own delicious homemade cream! 😍

The best part? These can be made ahead of time, stored in the fridge, and served fresh at events or gatherings. A perfect fusion of tradition and innovation!

Kürtős on the High Seas!

Just two days ago, I got a message from one of our customers in Croatia. He asked if we had one of our Kürtős models in stock. Odd request, I thought—he already bought one! Curious, I asked why he needed a second.

His answer?
“Strong winds.”
And not just any strong winds—winds so mighty they launched his Kürtős model (which was mounted on top of his kiosk) straight out to sea! Yes, his beloved chimney cake model had gone on an unscheduled seaside holiday.

Naturally, I reassured him that yes, we did have one in stock. Crisis averted… or so I thought.

Fast-forward to today, and I get another message—this time with a plot twist worthy of a Netflix special. A local fisherman had spotted his missing Kürtős model bobbing around in the Adriatic! Apparently, our customer had posted about the loss on Facebook, and the fisherman, who’d "caught" the giant Kürtős (probably hoping for fish and getting pastries), recognized it!

So, the runaway Kürtős is now back on dry land, reunited with its slightly shocked but very happy owner. This afternoon, it'll be reinstalled on his kiosk in Opatija—with, I hope, a few more screws this time.

It was a real pleasure to welcome the Vančata family from the Czech Republic to our Kürtős Academy on Tuesday! 🇨🇿✨

Tomáš and Lucie brought along their young son Tadeáš to learn the craft of Chimney Cake baking. The family already runs a successful coffee and bakery business back home, and they’ll soon be introducing Kürtőskalács—known locally as Trdelník—to their menu in both sweet and savoury varieties. We can’t wait to see how they put their own delicious twist on it! 💛🔥
