ANY DEVIATION FROM OUR TRUE SELF and anything that threatens our vulnerability or our basic sense of safety and survival serves as a trigger for various stress reactions.

When we observe modern man and human society, it quickly becomes clear that for most people, image is much more important than their true inner being.

With animals, this is clear – a lion will be a lion, a frog will be a frog, and neither will try to appear as a camel. But with humans, it seems that year after year, post after post, conversation after conversation, they move away from their authentic selves.

What about you? Are you truly following your heart? Are you living your life?

People's needs, the driving force behind their orientation, can be found through their fantasies, imagination, ideas, desires, and longings.

The problem with the modern world is that it constantly bombards and overwhelms us with expectations and images from the outside. Wherever you look, on whatever mobile device you check, you immediately find 1001 images and instructions of how things should be, how you should be, what you should want and so on.

This intensity of bombardment from the outside has no comparison in history. In the past, people were forced to deal with their own internal imagery and their own psyche. They spent more time observing their own bodily sensations, feelings and impulses, and that's how they found themselves within.

Today, we lack space and time for our inner self, and most things come from the outside, and that is the source of much pain and suffering. Because we are flooded with images and instructions from the outside and much of what comes from the outside does not really belong to us, we are consequently stressed, anxious and depressed.

The way out is the journey inward! The solution lies in self-exploration.

The way to get there is Grounding Fundamentals!

Hey, I used one of the fitness trackers to measure my heart rate during an activity and I need a favor. I'm writing an article and I'm asking you to look at the readings and guess in the comments during which activity this measurement was taken, with no information other than heart rate. I'm really curious to see what your guess will be. Thanks so much in advance!

In the complicated symphony of our lives, there is a deep connection between the head, heart and gut. These three powerhouses of intuition, reason and instinct shape our decisions, guide our actions and ultimately determine who we are.

The concept of brain, heart and gut alignment suggests that these three organs are interconnected and can influence each other's functioning. I believe that coordination between all three organs is crucial, whether their communication is neurological via the nervous system, biochemical via hormones, biophysical, or energetical.

Aligning these energetic centers means opening ourselves up to the fascinating inner communication between them that the body does on its own anyway, without us having to control it or do anything consciously. It turns out that it's even better if we can silence the mind, intentionally focus only on inner observations, and let the body do its magic.

Grounding is a powerful tool to facilitate this alignment.

Here is my new article Unlocking the harmony within: The fascinating connection between brain, heart, and gut with deeper insights on this topic.

Are you also the one who wants to:
- feel more joy and openness to life
- be more relaxed and at ease in relationships and have more curiosity
- sleep well and eat normally
- have a healthy immune system and
- feel more grounded, aligned and present in the body

Well, Polyvagal theory can give you a blueprint for navigating and regulating stress, anxiety, and tension in the body toward more pleasant and calm feelings, and in that way improving your overall well-being.

Developed by Dr. Stephen Porges, the theory explains how the nervous system regulates physiological states and emotional responses to various situations. It suggests that the nervous system has evolved over time to adapt to different environmental demands and that there are three distinct branches of the nervous system that are responsible for different states: the sympathetic nervous system and the two branches of the parasympathetic nervous system.

There is a difference between "grounding" and being "grounded."

"Grounding" refers to the act of connecting oneself with the earth or being more connected to the present moment and the physical environment. Grounding is often associated with reducing stress or anxiety. It can include activities such as mindfulness meditation, physical exercise, or spending time in nature. It's a set of energetic techniques designed to help people feel more centered, stable and calm.

The term "grounded" refers to the state of being calm, centered, stable, and in touch with reality. This is often achieved through grounding practices. A grounded person is said to be "in touch with the ground." When someone is described as "grounded," it usually means that he or she has a strong sense of inner stability, is emotionally stable and resilient, and can maintain composure in difficult situations.

But because being "grounded" means being in touch with reality, it can also mean being in touch with unpleasant feelings such as anger or fear, but in such a way that one takes ownership of those feelings and is able to manage them in a calm, composed and situationally appropriate manner.

Grounding is a powerful tool that I use in my work when I help people who are under stress, when they feel anxiety, when relationship problems weigh them down.

I see all these problems as an energetic problem.

Yes, you can say it's another energy blah blah. But hey, as an ex-physics teacher, I can tell you that energy is a very real phenomenon. Like the force of gravity, for example. Have you ever seen gravity or the gravitational force?

I know I haven't. But that doesn't mean that gravity doesn't exist. It just means that, like any other force, it can be observed indirectly. It means that we can see it through its effects

And stress, anxiety, emotional self-regulation, grounding - all of these are just indirect consequences of our energy, how our energy flows in the body, where we direct our energy, and how we distribute our energetic blocks in the body.

People often ask me why they need to stand with their knees slightly bent while observing their body sensations and feelings? Isn't this actually a form of meditation? And why can't they do this while sitting?

No one says you can't observe your body sensations while sitting? You can observe your inner self in virtually any position...

But most of us run away from unpleasant feelings and gravitate towards pleasant feelings. Right?

In early 2014, the results of a study were published in which researchers told participants different stories and showed them different videos and images to elicit different emotional responses.

They were interested in where in the body and how participants would perceive different body sensations in response to six "basic" emotions (anger, fear, disgust, happiness, sadness and surprise) and seven "complex" emotions (anxiety, love, depression, contempt, pride, shame and envy).

The image below shows the results, with the increased bodily response represented more with red hues and the decreased bodily response represented with blue hues. The image is from the article Bodily maps of emotions, PNAS, January 2014.

Before you click on the article

https://www.groundingfundamentals.com/treats/standing-with-our-feet-firmly-on-the-ground

and read it, stop for a moment and ask yourself, what feeling or emotion are you drawn to? What feeling or emotion do you want to feel? And then ask yourself what is the main difference between the image of that emotion and all the others?

You can write your thoughts in the comments...

There are things that change the course of your life! Grounding was definitely the thing that changed the direction of my life.

It was in the spring of 2011 when I attended my first body psychotherapy Core Energetics weekend workshop. In that workshop I learned some important lessons for my life. One of them was that some of the things we look for on the outside are easily found on the inside of the body.

An integral part of every Core Energetics workshop is what we called bodywork, the purpose of which is to "open up" the body and prepare it for the work. The side effect and result of the bodywork is that we could slip into different emotional states very quickly.

And I will never forget the feeling after the end of the first bodywork. When we were lying on the floor at the end, I felt like I was coming back home. It was a very physical, embodied, indescribably beautiful and peaceful feeling. I was very touched, because as a child of divorced parents, finding my home has been an issue for me for a long time. And I was surprised that I found it in the body.

Previously I had experienced "similar" feelings in various, let's call it "strange" situations. I write "similar" in quotation marks, because although these feelings were pleasant, they weren't really well-grounded feelings, but rather illusions of feelings. For example, I remember a very intense feeling of beauty just before I regained consciousness after one of the first collapses. At that time, I promised myself that if I experienced similar feelings anywhere in my life, I would simply follow the direction (knowledge/actions) that would lead to those feelings. Other situations that were also quite emotionally intense were, for example, when I was paragliding or in the past when I drank alcohol, of course if we exclude the feelings the next day.

But this time was different. My mind was wrapped around this embodied, indescribably beautiful and calm feeling for a while. Today I know that it was a feeling of grounding.

I followed my vow and enrolled in body psychotherapy training, later changed my job and began working as a therapist, continued my studies after graduation, and in the meantime led the bodywork Awaken Yourself and Your Body in my city for a few years. I just want to say with all of this that my involvement into grounding shaped my entire next decade in one way or another. I began to learn more and more about the different aspects of grounding, and the subject interested and attracted me more and more. As I learned about the different ways in which we can ground ourselves, I also learned about the different ways in which we can un-ground ourselves.

Grounding has become one of the pillars of my therapeutic work over the years. The big difference between Core Energetics body psychotherapy and primarily "talk-oriented" psychotherapy, for example, is that in body psychotherapy we don't just sit and talk. I usually start my therapies standing up.

So, I have always been particularly interested in standing. I came into contact with standing practice primarily because I was looking for ways to ground myself as optimally as possible. And I wanted to do it by myself.

What everyone can easily see is that people stand in very different ways. The fact is that each of us has a lot of psychological and emotional history written into our posture. In my practice, for example, I find that more than 90 percent of people who seek help aren't standing in a stable and open posture.

Standing is also something that everyone can take charge of and into their own hands, but most people don't pay much attention to standing.

Most people I work with soon get instructions on how to help themselves with a standing exercise at home. But here's the thing: Some people take it intuitively and follow the instructions, while others resist to standing exercises. Sometimes this has to do with resistance, sometimes they simply lack information about the benefits and different aspects of this exercise or they just crave for and expect a quick fix, which standing definitely isn't.

This is the gap I'd like to fill with GROUNDING FUNDAMENTALS online course. You can find the course on

-> www.groundingfundamentals.com

One of the main objective of the course is to give you tools to ground yourself when needed and that you master standing as one of the most effective and important grounding exercise.

At the same time, Grounding Fundamentals is designed so that anyone can learn all you need to know about grounding - and more, whether you're in the therapeutic process or not, whether you're a therapist or a client. It's a framework that has helped me and my clients achieve a deeper and more profound connection with ourselves and our bodies. This highly structured program gives you the theoretical background and practical instructions so you can deepen your knowledge through your own practical experience.

The practical exercises take you step-by-step through the weeks and give you a detailed guide into the world of your body sensations, energy and feelings. In this way you can build a solid foundation combining conceptual and theoretical knowledge that's in synch with your feelings and emotions, enriching your own practical experience and setting a strong foundation to become more comfortable with your body and more grounded.

In this course you gain access to much of what I have researched and practically tested on myself and my clients over the past decade.

Have a great weekend!
