Capsaicin is the chemical that gives chili peppers their heat. Varroa mites are much more sensitive to it than bees, so when they’re exposed to capsaicin vapors or mild chili solutions, the mites become stressed, fall off the bees, or die.
Keep in mind that too-strong chili preparations can stress bees, cause them to abscond, or contaminate honey.
