📢 Immigration Update: 100 New Foreign Police Employees Approved

The Ministry of Interior of the Slovak Republic has announced a boost to Foreign Police staffing to improve availability of services for foreigners and employers

➡️ 100 new officers will be added across Slovakia
– 50 in Bratislava
– 25 in Banská Bystrica
– 25 in Prešov
This response comes after a 300% increase in foreign nationals over the last decade and the upcoming mass renewals following the end of Temporary Protection.

We expect:
- Improved access to appointments
- Potentially shorter processing times
- Some biometric appointment limits may still remain

💡 With digitalisation accelerating, we strongly recommend early activation of residence cards for electronic services to ensure smoother renewals and access to digital services for foreigners.

On 8 August 2025, the Slovak Ministry of Interior announced significant changes to its Reservation System for Foreigners.
The system now offers two types of access:

✅ Authorized services – for foreigners with an activated electronic residence card (BOK) and official registry record, allowing bookings up to 60 days ahead. New booking category: Temporary Residence – Change of Purpose.

✅ Unauthorized services – for foreigners without a residence card or registry record, allowing bookings up to 40 days ahead, using personal details as before.

Aim is to improve functionality and curb illegal trading of appointment slots. Further system improvements are planned.

Important: We recommend activation of residence card for electronic use as soon as possible to access the reservation system.

⚠ The system is still being updated – we’ll share more insights after testing the new functionalities.

Hiring talent from outside the EU? Don’t miss our next August HR Breakfast, where we’ll explore the most common immigration route for non-EU nationals employed locally in Slovakia: the temporary residence permit for employment purposes.

We’ll walk you through the entire process, from what documents are needed and how to obtain the confirmation to fill a vacancy, to understanding the typical duration of the permit and when to initiate its renewal. You’ll also learn what changes must be reported if an employee is promoted, transfers to a different position, or arrives with a permit already in place.

This session is designed to give HR teams the clarity and confidence to manage every stage—from onboarding to contract changes—with efficiency and awareness of employer duties tied to this type of residence.
