Today, the Sierra Leone Red Cross Society proudly joins the global Red Cross & Red Crescent Movement to commemorate World First Aid Day under the theme:

✨ “First Aid and Climate Change – Saving Lives in a Changing Climate.”

In Sierra Leone, climate change brings frequent floods, landslides, building collapses, and other emergencies that put lives at risk. In these moments, First Aid is our first line of defense.

From rescuing flood victims, responding to building collapses, road accidents, or sudden disasters—our volunteers have always been the first in and the last out. 🚑✊

Beyond emergencies, we continue to train schools, institutions, and communities in First Aid—empowering more Sierra Leoneans with lifesaving skills and building resilience in a changing climate.

On this World First Aid Day, we reaffirm our commitment to saving lives and call on everyone to learn at least one lifesaving skill. Because together, First Aid saves lives, builds resilience, and gives hope. 🌱💪

On 27–28 August 2025, the Sierra Leone Red Cross Society (SLRCS), through the Saving Lives and Livelihoods (SLL) Phase 2 Project, reaffirmed its commitment to improving access to essential health services — especially life course vaccinations such as COVID-19, HPV, and Measles.

SLRCS hosted a two-day technical workshop to:
✅ Review and update Social & Behavioural Change (SBC) materials
✅ Identify gaps and outdated content
✅ Align messages with national and global standards
✅ Incorporate community feedback and field evidence

The workshop’s goal was simple but powerful: strengthen demand creation for vaccines and promote broader Primary Health Care (PHC) services.

Expected outcomes include:
📌 Validated SBC materials
📌 A clear matrix of target audiences and communication channels
📌 A practical dissemination and implementation plan

Together, we’re building trust, driving vaccine uptake, and strengthening community health systems across Sierra Leone. 🌍💉

From 14–16 July 2025, SLRCS teams gathered in Kono for a 4-day training on Emergency Needs Assessment (ENAP), DREF procedures, and the IFRC GO platform — boosting our capacity to respond faster and smarter in emergencies.

💉 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 💉

From 11–12 August 2025, the Sierra Leone Red Cross Society (SLRCS), through the Saving Lives and Livelihoods (SLL) Project, trained Community Health Workers (CHWs) and volunteers in Bombali District to enhance routine immunization efforts using the Community-Led Action Approach (CLAA).

Over the two-day workshop, participants explored strategies to increase vaccination rates, especially among hesitant families. They learned how to collaborate with local leaders, identify key influencers, and design effective community engagement plans — including referral and follow-up systems.

💬 “I now feel more confident engaging families empathetically,” said the CHW lead from Kambia.

The training also strengthened skills in:
✅ Behavior change communication
✅ Clear messaging on immunization benefits
✅ Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE)
✅ Building trust between communities and health facilities

By the end of the workshop, CHWs and volunteers committed to implementing action plans that ensure no child is left behind in Sierra Leone’s immunization drive.

The SLL Project operates across ten districts and supports 50 health facilities, working to boost vaccine confidence and strengthen community health systems nationwide.

From 23–29 June 2025, the Sierra Leone Red Cross Society is hosting a Training of Trainers (ToT) on Enhanced Vulnerability and Capacity Assessment (EVCA), with focused modules on Early Warning Systems.

This training is designed to build and strengthen the capacity of our dedicated staff and volunteers in disaster preparedness and response—empowering them to better serve and protect their communities.
