Today, 16th April 2026, the Sierra Leone Red Cross Society Kono Branch successfully conducted a voluntary blood donation exercise at Koidu Government Hospital.

A total of 𝟗 𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐛𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐝 were donated 𝟖 from male donors and 𝟏 from a female donor helping to strengthen the availability of safe blood for patients in urgent need.

This timely effort reflects our continued commitment to supporting healthcare delivery and improving emergency response services across Kono District.

Through the dedication of our volunteers, donors, and partners, we remain proud to stand with communities in saving lives and bringing hope where it is needed most.

𝐍𝐨 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐁𝐞 𝐋𝐞𝐟𝐭 𝐁𝐞𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐝 - 𝟑𝟎𝟎 𝐃𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐦 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐙𝐞𝐫𝐨-𝐃𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐧.

Today at the New Brookfields Hotel, the Sierra Leone Red Cross Society stood alongside the Ministry of Health, World Health Organization, UNICEF, Focus 1000 and other partners in an important conversation with Paramount Chiefs and traditional leaders on advancing the 300 Days of Activism for Zero-Dose Children.

Sierra Leone has made strong progress, reaching 𝟗𝟓% immunization coverage nationwide. But behind that success is a critical reminder some children are still being missed. And those children matter.

Speaking during the engagement, the Secretary General of the Sierra Leone Red Cross Society stressed that these are not just numbers, but real children with real futures future leaders of our communities and our country.

He called for stronger community ownership and leadership, emphasizing the need to work together to achieve:
✔️ Zero missed doses
✔️ Zero preventable maternal deaths
✔️ Zero preventable child deaths

He also reaffirmed the Society’s commitment, pledging the support of over 20,000 Red Cross volunteers across the country to work hand-in-hand with Paramount Chiefs and traditional leaders. Together, we will continue building trust, raising awareness, and supporting communities to ensure every child is reached — not just during campaigns, but every day.

🚨 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐑𝐨𝐚𝐝 𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐒𝐢𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐚 𝐋𝐞𝐨𝐧𝐞 🚨

Today marks an important step forward as the Sierra Leone Red Cross Society and the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority officially signed a 𝐌𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐦 𝐨𝐟 𝐔𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 (𝐌𝐎𝐔) aimed at saving lives on our roads.

This partnership is rooted in action—bringing life-saving skills closer to the people. From training drivers, okada and kekeh riders, to empowering communities with 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐀𝐢𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐞 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰𝐥𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞, the focus is clear: respond faster, act better, and save more lives.

The collaboration will also strengthen public awareness, improve emergency communication systems, and target high-risk “𝐛𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐭” areas where accidents are most frequent.

While road crashes have reduced, the reality remains concerning, with over 𝟐,𝟎𝟎𝟎 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓. This initiative supports the global ambition to 𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐞 𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐝 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜 𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐬 𝐛𝐲 𝟓𝟎% 𝐛𝐲 𝟐𝟎𝟑𝟎.

With the leadership of the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority and the strength of over 20,000 volunteers from the Sierra Leone Red Cross Society, this partnership is set to make a meaningful difference.

🩺💉 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐈𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲 𝐀𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬 𝐒𝐢𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐚 𝐋𝐞𝐨𝐧𝐞

The Sierra Leone Red Cross Society (SLRCS), through the Routine Immunization – Find Everyone Everywhere (FEE) Project, supported by Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance successfully completed a district-level training for EPI Focal Persons and community mobilizers on Basic CPR and the management of Adverse Events Following Immunization (AEFI).

The training, conducted in makeni and kambia brought together 75 EPI focal persons at facility level,and 25 community mobilizers from Port loko, kambia, Bombali, Tonkolili and Karene district with facilitators from the Expanded ProgramonImmunization, and First Aid Trainers from SLRCS.

Through interactive presentations, group discussions, and hands-on CPR practice, participants strengthened their knowledge and practical skills to:

✔️ Identify and manage AEFI cases early
✔️ Provide immediate emergency response, including CPR
✔️ Improve AEFI reporting and referral systems
✔️ Ensure safe, ethical, and quality immunization services

This initiative reinforces our commitment to supporting the Government of Sierra Leone in delivering safe and effective vaccines, building community trust, and reaching every eligible person — everywhere.

🚨 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐅𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐞 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 & 𝐑𝐞𝐟𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 🌊

Following the successful completion of multiple Flood DREF operations across five flood-affected districts in 2025, the Sierra Leone Red Cross Society (SLRCS), with support from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), convened a National Lessons Learnt Workshop on 9 February 2026.

The workshop brought together SLRCS Headquarters and Branch staff, dedicated volunteers, IFRC representatives, community leaders, and beneficiaries to reflect on the entire DREF response cycle — from preparedness and needs assessments to implementation, monitoring, coordination, evaluation, reporting, and closure.

Through highly interactive and participatory discussions, key operational areas were reviewed, including:
✔️ Relief distributions
✔️ Multipurpose cash assistance
✔️ Health and hygiene promotion
✔️ Community engagement & accountability
✔️ Volunteer capacity development
✔️ Protection, Gender and Inclusion.

This important reflection process enabled SLRCS to document critical lessons learnt and practical recommendations to further strengthen flood preparedness and emergency response in Sierra Leone.

We remain committed to continuous learning, accountability, and community-centered humanitarian action.

There was joy, pride, and a strong sense of achievement in Kagbaray Village as the Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) held its first-ever share-out ceremony — a clear sign that when communities are empowered, progress continues.

Although the Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance (BHA) Project, implemented by the Sierra Leone Red Cross Society, has officially ended, its impact is still very much alive. This successful share-out shows how sustainable the initiative is, with members confidently using the skills, knowledge, and systems they gained to improve their livelihoods.

Community members warmly appreciated the Sierra Leone Red Cross Society for choosing Kagbaray Village and for investing in solutions that continue to work long after the project lifecycle.

🎉 The atmosphere was filled with excitement and gratitude, as members celebrated not just money saved, but hope, independence, and a better future.

Importantly, similar VSLA successes are also being recorded in the other project districts, including Moyamba District and Bombali, further proving that this approach to community empowerment is working across regions.

An impact that lives on — building stronger, more self-reliant communities, one village at a time.

🌍🤝 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐇𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐄𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 🤝🌍

On Tuesday, December 30, 2025, volunteers of the Sierra Leone Red Cross Society – Bombali Branch proudly concluded the year’s activities by giving back to the community through a district-wide cleaning exercise organized by the Bombali District Council.

The day-long activity focused on improving sanitation and environmental cleanliness along major streets in Makeni. Our dedicated volunteers actively cleared grasses, swept streets, and collected waste for proper disposal into dump trucks.

This initiative is one of the many ways the Red Cross continues to demonstrate its unwavering commitment to humanity, promoting healthy, clean, and safe communities.

The Sierra Leone Red Cross Society Kono Branch strengthened its first aid services by donating newly 4 printed banners and essential 15 triangular bandages to the First Aid Executive. The initiative aims to improve visibility, community engagement, and emergency preparedness while enhancing volunteer capacity across Kono District.

Branch leaders emphasized the role of these materials in effective outreach and rapid response, while the First Aid Executive expressed appreciation, noting the donation will boost training, simulations, and real-life emergency responses, especially in hard-to-reach communities. This effort aligns with the SLRCS mission to alleviate suffering and build local disaster response capacity, marking a positive milestone as the year comes to a close.

The power of volunteerism and humanitarian spirit was beautifully showcased through two remarkable activities that brought energy, unity, and inspiration to our Red Cross family nationwide.

We kicked off with the 𝐁𝐨𝐦𝐛𝐚𝐥𝐢 𝐁𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐡 𝐀𝐧𝐧𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐉𝐨𝐠𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧’𝐬 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐂𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐲, held under the powerful theme “𝑩𝒆𝒚𝒐𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑭𝒊𝒏𝒊𝒔𝒉 𝑳𝒊𝒏𝒆, 𝑻𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝑰𝒔 𝒂 𝑳𝒊𝒇𝒆𝒔𝒂𝒗𝒆𝒓.” The event went beyond fitness—it strengthened solidarity, supported branch resource mobilization, and celebrated commitment to service. Bombali Branch continues to stand tall with its large, active, and passionate pool of volunteers, whose dedication to humanitarian action and volunteerism remains truly inspiring.

The journey then reached its grand climax with the Youth Camp 2025, proudly celebrated under the slogan 𝑬 𝒏𝒐𝒓 𝑾𝒐𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒇𝒖𝒍? 𝑬 𝑾𝒐𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒇𝒖𝒍.” Youths from branches across the country gathered in joy, unity, and purpose, demonstrating their unwavering passion for humanitarian service. The event was honored by the presence of the President, Secretary-General, and Vice President of the Sierra Leone Red Cross Society, who joined the youths in celebration and solidarity.
In his address, the President urged young volunteers to lead from the front, build strong relationships, and develop networks that will shape the future of humanitarian action. The camp concluded on a high note with the presentation of certificates of recognition and excellence to deserving branches and the National Youth Executive.

From Bombali’s energetic strides to the national youth celebration, these activities reaffirm that volunteerism is alive, growing, and impactful—because truly, 𝙀 𝙣𝙤𝙧 𝙒𝙤𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙛𝙪𝙡? 𝙀 𝙒𝙤𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙛𝙪𝙡! ❤️🙌
