🌍 International Day of the Girl Child 2025 🌸
Theme: The Girl I Am: The Change I Lead – Girls on the Frontline of Crisis

Today, we celebrate the power, resilience, and leadership of girls everywhere — especially those standing tall on the frontlines of crises. From climate change and conflict to inequality and digital exclusion, girls are not just victims of circumstance — they are agents of change, shaping a more inclusive and equitable future.

✨ International Day of Non-Violence 2025 ✨

Today, we join the world in celebrating the spirit of peace, unity, and humanity. The International Day of Non-Violence reminds us of Mahatma Gandhi’s powerful message: “Non-violence is the greatest force at the disposal of mankind.”

💙 Let’s stand together to:
🌍 Promote peace in our communities
🕊️ Resolve conflicts through dialogue and understanding
🤝 Spread love, tolerance, and respect for all

Violence can never bring lasting solutions—but kindness, compassion, and unity can change the world.

👉 Together, let’s commit to building a culture of non-violence in our homes, schools, workplaces, and societies.

Today, our First Lady of the Republic of Sierra Leone and President of the Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD), had the honour of hosting a high-level side event on the margins of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). The event was held under the theme: “Peace and Security Through Her Eyes: Centering Women and Children in Global Peace, Stability, and Sustainable Development.”

This gathering brought together fellow First Ladies from across Africa and beyond, development partners, global philanthropists, civil society leaders, and a host of other distinguished advocates working to protect and empower women and children worldwide.

She was especially honoured by the presence of her husband, His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio and His Excellency President Umaro Sissoco Embaló of Guinea-Bissau.
Both delivered powerful and inspiring messages, reaffirming their unwavering commitment to the rights and empowerment of women and girls in Africa and across the globe.

As the President of OAFLAD, this year’s theme speaks to her on a deeply personal level. She truly believe that without peace and security, the world cannot become a safe, fair, or prosperous place for women and girls. Their protection, inclusion, and leadership must be central to any agenda for sustainable development and global stability.

We want to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt appreciation to our president —not just for his presence at the event, but for his ongoing commitment to championing the rights of women and girls in Sierra Leone. His support is not only personal but also political, as he continues to lead efforts in Sierra Leone to end gender-based violence and promote equal opportunities.

This picture speaks louder than words. It shows the heavy, invisible weight that many women carry every single day.

The mother in this picture is holding children in her arms, while also carrying the burdens of:
• Paying bills
• Cooking
• Raising children
• Working a full-time job
• And still having no time for herself

Meanwhile, the father is seen relaxing, playing video games, detached from the responsibilities of family life.

This is not just about one family — it reflects the reality of countless households where women are expected to juggle multiple roles, often without recognition or support.

The message is clear: parenting and family responsibilities should be shared equally. No one should carry the weight alone. Partnership means teamwork — emotionally, financially, and physically.

Let’s challenge these unfair expectations, gender stereotypes and create homes where balance, respect, and love guide our roles. 💙

Are you doing gender work or transforming gender norms?

Lately, I’ve been sitting with this question, not as a critique, but as a quiet check-in with myself, my work, and the spaces I’m part of.

In so many spaces, we talk about gender. We organize training sessions, write policies, and even facilitate dialogues.

But I’ve started asking:
💭 Are we making the conversation safer… or braver?
💭 Are we challenging norms or carefully working around them?
💭 Are we helping people unlearn or just hoping they agree?

Because gender work can be comfortable.
But gender transformation rarely is.

Transforming norms means:
– Making the invisible visible
– Naming what power looks like in practice
– And staying with discomfort long enough for change to root

This is what I’m learning (and unlearning) every day through practice, discomfort, and reflection.
I won’t always have the perfect answers, but I’ll always keep showing up with intention.

💬 What does gender transformation look like in your space?
