Dear Beloved Country People,
January 6th remains a deeply painful reminder for Sierra Leone, a day that calls us to pause, reflect, and honor the lives affected by the violence and losses from our brutal civil war. Even in our shared sorrow, we must hold firmly to hope and choose healing over hatred. To our youth and young people, especially those who have turned to substance use as a way of coping with stress and trauma rooted in the painful history our nation has endured, please know that your pain does not define your future, and substances will never bring the healing your heart truly deserves. Reaching out for support, speaking your truth, and choosing healthier paths are powerful acts of courage, not weakness. May this day strengthen our collective commitment to peace, justice, and understanding, inspire us to care for one another with compassion, and guide us away from anything that divides us. Through remembrance, unity, and shared responsibility, we can transform our grief into purpose and build a more peaceful, resilient, and hopeful Sierra Leone for present and future generations.
Sincerely,
LCL
