Diop Foundation will be an international nonprofit headquartered in Dakar, Senegal whose goal is to offer the women of Dakar access and opportunity to identify cancerous cells before they become incurable.

Thank you all for your support! We have a foundation! On Friday, February 22, 2021 the Asta T Diop Foundation for Prevention officially launched in Dakar. You can find footage of our launch below. Through your kind donations, we paid for all chemotherapy related prescriptions for every patient receiving chemotherapy in the breast cancer ward, covered 50% of the cost of one patient's mastectomy, and covered the unexpected cost that one woman ran into when she brought her daughter in for a mastectomy. I will translate the exchange below.

Volunteer: "Mama, what brings you to the hospital today?"
Mama: "I've been running from hospital to hospital since last year for my daughter's breast that they say has a disease. I came to the hospital today because they told us they would remove it. We left the house at 4AM to get here on time. When we got here they told us they have to do a screening before they can operate. I swear upon the good Lord above me that I only have this 500 and I had to fry and sell peanuts in the street to earn it."
Volunteer: " We are here to support women who are afflicted by breast cancer before it's too late. We're here to help you."
Country Director: " We are going to cover the cost of the screening for you. You told us that you cannot afford it but your daughter has to be treated"
This has been nerve wrecking and emotional work. I'm still in disbelief at it's success, but I couldn't have done it without you. I learned a whole lot in this process; the nights will be long & the tears will be plenty, but we're going to stomp out breast cancer's aggressive attack on women in Senegal. According to the World Health Organization in 2020 there were 1,817 confirmed new cases of breast cancer in Senegal. Some are is still fighting, some are in remission, and for others like Asta the fight has ended
