In the journey toward sustainable development, nothing is more powerful than local leadership and participation. In Somaliland, women are stepping up to lead the charge, transforming the healthcare landscape for their communities.
This incredible work was at the heart of our conversation today in Hargeisa, where we hosted a team from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) led by the Regional Head of International Cooperation, Horn of Africa, Martina Durrer. Together, we celebrated the inspiring progress being made through the PSPH Programme, particularly the pioneering efforts of our intervention partner, the Somaliland Family Health Association (SOFHA). We jointly reviewed significant progress and discussed strategic next steps.
SOFHA is tackling one of the biggest healthcare challenges in Somalilandโaccess to quality and affordable mother and childcareโwith creative, women-focused solutions. Recently, they have launched a Comprehensive Women's Wellness package, a game-changer that provides affordable maternal care from pregnancy through to postnatal home visits, ensuring mothers and babies get the start they deserve.
Our excitement is now focused on the future. The next step is to connect SOFHA with other healthcare players, including the Network Against FGM in Somaliland (NAFIS), one of Somaliland's most powerful women's networks. By joining forces, we can amplify the reach of these wellness packages, bringing better health to countless more families. Its a powerful reminder that when women lead, a healthier, more equitable future for everyone is possible.
Additionally, we had a deep dive on Siraaj Hospitalโs newly launched healthcare package for the families of Bajaj drivers, which is ensuring that this underserved community gains access to essential services. Bajaj drivers in Burao and their families, upon payment of an annual registration fee of $5, become entitled to a host of discounted healthcare services from our partner Siraaj.
PSPH has been supporting efforts to refine this product, in addition to advancing other health finance interventions like low-cost health insurance. These tangible outcomes are a testament to the strong collaboration between SDC and the PSPH Programmeโs Dream Team.
