As part of our campaign to raise awareness about the importance of Universal Health Coverage Day, we present to you 6 individuals from different NMOs across the EMR Region with various sources explaining the significance of this day.

Regardless of the existing status of health systems and resources in any country, effective leadership would form a clear national vision towards universal coverage and commit to meeting this vision gradually over time thereby measurably moving towards achieving it.

UHC does not mean free access to every possible health service for every person. Every country has a different path to achieving UHC and deciding what to cover based on the needs of their people and the resources at hand. It does, however, emphasize the importance of access to health services and information as a basic human right.

Universal coverage is the hallmark of a government’s commitment to improve the well-being of all its citizens.

While acknowledging that the cause of the inadequate implementation of universal coverage is multi-factorial, we argue that the root cause is inadequate political and technical leadership.

In recognition of World 𝐀𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 (𝐀𝐌𝐑) Awareness Week (WAAW) 2024, we were proud to join the Youth Webinar organized by WHO EMRO Regional Office. As one of the winners of the WHO EMRO 2023 Student Competition, NAHSAS shared our progress, success stories, and lessons learned from promoting the WHO AWaRE Antibiotic Book over the past year.

The webinar served as an inspiring platform for youth groups across the region to showcase their innovative efforts, and strengthen their commitment to combating antimicrobial resistance (AMR).

Special thanks and appreciation to World Health Organization (Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office) and WHO Somalia for their unwavering support and guidance throughout our implementation journey.
