As the country launched the Johnson and Johnson COVID-19 vaccine today in Juba, the National Ministry of Health has called on the citizens to embark on COVID-19 vaccination as the vaccines are safe and effective.

“We need to appreciate the donors giving us the vaccines and encourage our people to come out for vaccination.

“It is a responsibility of every individual at every family and community level to encourage community members for the vaccination,” said Dr. Victoria Anib Majur, the Health Ministry’s Undersecretary.

The Health Official also appealed to the women to come out for vaccination as their turn up has been a concern.

“I want to urge my sisters and mothers to come forth for the vaccination and dispute the rumours that COVID-19 vaccination causes infertility,” Dr. Victoria said.

“COVID-19 vaccines are safe for women and everyone. They do not cause infertility or so forth. So please my sisters and mothers, this is a special message for you,” she concluded.

The ’s launch was attended by partners that include the US government through its Embassy in Juba, WHO, UNICEF, CDC Centers for Disease and Control among other partners in South Sudan.

The launched vaccine is expected to benefit about 150,000 people across South Sudan.

Sudan now has AstraZeneca and the Johnson and Johnson vaccines.
