To prevent the spread of cholera, you can take the following safety measures:

1. Drink safe water

Use bottled, chlorinated, boiled, or filtered water. Avoid piped water, drinks sold in cups or bags, and ice.

2. Wash your hands

Wash your hands with soap and water before, during, and after preparing food, after using the toilet, and after changing diapers.

3. Cook food thoroughly

Eat only foods that have been thoroughly cooked and are still hot. Avoid undercooked food.

4. Use a toilet

Use toilets or safely managed sanitation facilities.

5. Wash clothing and bedding

Remove and wash any bedding or clothing that may have had contact with diarrhea.

6. Get vaccinated

Get vaccinated with an oral cholera vaccine (OCV).

7. Practice good hygiene

Clean up safely in the kitchen and in places where the family bathes and washes clothes.

8. Be aware of symptoms

If another household member starts having diarrhea, give them oral rehydration solution (ORS) and rush them to the nearest healthcare facility.
