“Breaking the Siege” Campaign
First Right: The Right of Living
Definition of the Campaign
Since March 2011, Syrians have been living in the shadow of all kinds of systematic violence against them. The worst kinds of these practices was the siege which is considered as a declaration of a long war on civilians by cutting off all basic and important supplies of living like food, medicine and without all kinds of other infrastructure services as Education, medical care, power supplies or even clean water resources for all residents of the besieged areas. With no distinction between a man and a woman, a child or an elder, and that was not everything about the siege, but it has been associated with various forms of bombardments so who did not die of starvation or sickness, dies by heavy weapons. And probably what happened in the past twenty-first of August provides a living example of the painful truth of using the Chemical Weapons attacking Eastern Ghouta in the countryside of Damascus city. Without sufficient legal accountability or investigation of any kind; also without providing any kind of material support or medical care for those who suffered -and still suffering- the critical consequences of the siege until this moment, are only some international political denunciations. The international organizations are busy planning for some kind of agreements and negotiations with the Syrian Government specifically about delivering its chemical weapons only and expecting that this will end the problem forgetting to offer any help of any kind for the people. The United Nations’ Declaration of Human Rights states in its -article no.1-“All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights.”- Article no.3-“Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person.’-article no.5-“No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.” These articles and the rest of the human rights are being violated on a daily basis in Syria and especially the under siege areas. There, the right of life becomes the most demanded right amongst Syrians who lost every guaranty of a safe secured life for their children. At the same time the International Organizations and the United Nations call for the protection of the human being and his rights while stands still to watch the inhuman situations experienced by the Syrian regime without stirring a figure in order to change this reality. As a result, “Breaking the Siege” campaign holds a legitimate and a humanitarian nature. It aims to gather the support of the International and Humanitarian organizations to evoke International pressure over the Syrian regime. Aid should be provided in order to facilitate the way for the working Organizations that care about relief services in the fields and open safe and permanent passages to deliver medical and food aid directly to those who need them in the damaged and affected areas. Objectives of the Campaign
Our campaign will shed the light over the sufferings of the Syrian people especially in the areas where they live under the burden of the siege such as Old Homs City, Eastern Ghouta in Damascus, Darayya, Al Moaadamyeh neighborhoods and towns in south and east of Damascus. These areas are inhabited by more than 1,500,000 human beings surrounded and threatened by death all the time. This campaign also will refer to the implications and the results of the siege over civilians and their increasing needs for medicine and food under the threats of a wide patch of diseases outbreak and epidemics horribly after losing all factors of any education for children or a normal healthy life for anyone.
