أمل جديد لفاقدي النظر باعتلال اللطخه الشيخي AMD 💜👇
A revolutionary eye implant called the PRIMA system is offering new hope to people suffering from advanced dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD), a condition that causes loss of central vision and makes tasks like reading or recognizing faces extremely difficult.
The implant is a tiny wireless chip placed beneath the retina, designed to bypass damaged photoreceptors by stimulating the remaining healthy retinal cells.
It works together with specially designed glasses that include a camera and infrared projector. These glasses capture visual scenes, process them, and project the information to the implant, which then sends signals to the brain to recreate vision.
In a large clinical trial across 17 hospitals in Europe, 26 out of 32 patients who used the PRIMA system for a year regained significant central visual function.
Over 80% of them were able to read text again—some for the first time in years. While the vision quality doesn’t fully match natural sight and still requires external glasses and a processor, the system has drastically improved quality of life for many participants.
Researchers see this as a major milestone in visual prosthetics, with the potential to benefit millions of people once approved for broader use.
