The Next Step Chiang Mai

The Next Step Chiang Mai Thailand's Premier Sober Living Environment. Are you or a loved one soon to be leaving rehab and are worried about the challenges that lie ahead?

Are you currently struggling in the real world and don’t feel like another spell in primary care is the right option? The Next Step, located in beautiful Chiang Mai, Thailand could be your solution. The Next Step is a sober living environment nestled in a leafy, tranquil setting which has become lovingly known to clients and staff alike as the “The Village”. Facilities include a swimming pool, gymnasium, games room, martial arts area and meditation room among others. Our clients view the village as being home, and the people that live or work here as being family. In primary treatment you will have learnt about the illness along with extremely useful tools in combating it, such as CBT, effective boundary setting, relapse prevention work, mindfulness and meditation among others. This is all done in a highly structured and controlled environment with minimal triggers and little exposure to many of the problems and difficulties left behind in the real world, the outside world. Yes, within the village we provide a drug and alcohol free environment, but the walls around our village are not there to keep you in. We are not there to control your life and every waking moment, but to assist and support you on your journey forward into recovery. Simply put, we don’t just talk about the tools, we teach you how to USE these tools. Understandably, when leaving rehab, many are quite daunted by the task ahead and feel utterly unprepared. Unfortunately, statistics show that in the short period of time after leaving rehab there is a high risk possibility of a relapse. Our community is small and select. With just fourteen rooms available, our clients are guaranteed a more personalised approach than some larger facilities provide but at affordable rates. At The Next Step, qualified, dedicated professional staff address your individual treatment needs and together with the constant support of your peers, the common goal of long term sobriety suddenly seems achievable. If your recovery has recently slipped or you are starting to struggle in the outside world, it is not too late. Perhaps you are leaving rehab soon and want to give yourself the very best opportunity in attaining successful recovery: meaningful recovery. For what would be a fraction of the cost of another lengthy stay in primary care, contact us today to discuss your next step.

Question time: What advice would you offer someone who is struggling with addiction and didn't know there was a way out to a whole new way of living?

‘T’is the season to be jolly! ‘Eat, drink and be merry!’

For any human being, the festive period is a perfect excuse to indulge, right? Not really. An addict in active addiction, doesn’t need an excuse. We use on anything: happiness, sadness, anger, disappointment, celebration, frustration. The ‘season’ keeps us handily in our addiction - and for a short period, our insane behaviour gets lost in the crowd. But for most folk, the temporary season passes, while the perennial chaos of the addict rises to the attention of the onlookers once again. A bit like the carrot nose on a melted snowman, we deny it’s time to stop.

But there is no denying that it is often very distressing to experience. For friends and families of addicts, Christmas can be an excruciatingly painful time, working out what to do for the best.

At The Next Step we want to help addicts to live again with freedom, self-respect and as the loving individuals they are without addiction. We see addicts who want recovery as fighters to be admired. As addicts, our road to recovery is a life-long one, but the sooner it begins, the greater our chance of being fully present, and ‘a part of’ this time next year.

If you need support to help a loved one, please get in touch. Don't suffer in silence. Neither they, nor you, need to feel alone at this or any time of year.

At The Next Step we view Meditation as important time to find ‘Me’ in the busy life that surrounds us, and a guiding tool to achieving inner peace and happiness.

Here in Chiang Mai, it is easy to immerse yourself in the Thai Buddhist cultural practice which, today, is acknowledged across the globe to help transform lives. It helps to make our minds calm, peaceful and free from mental discomfort, so we can experience true happiness in the present. We are also uniquely privileged to have our own resident monk at The Village who provides a caring helping hand to integrate Meditation time into our everyday living.

The unbeatable beauty of being a rehab resort in Thailand is that we can embrace and get involved with the wonderful cultural festivals of hope and unity that the Thai culture offers.

Coinciding with the Full Moon, tonight is the sensational experience of Loi Krathong - a Festival of light and water, peace, hope and unified positivity. We will join in and write our wishes on lanterns and release them tonight, to symbolise the brighter future that each of us deserves.

Thailand is truly an incredible place to recover.

Freedom from addiction comes from putting daily work into a recovery program - GETTING REAL! At The Next Step we do this through experiential learning - and that means 'GOING PLACES!

Discovery is a major part of recovery, and here's a terrific real-life example of just that in action.

Last week, SD, who has worked a program with The Next Step for over 6 months, took some self-discovery time in the scenic mountain riverside town of Pai. We are privileged that she has allowed us to share her experience with you, because it is a rich example of what can happen if we just keep showing up for life, one day at a time!

Remember what it feels like to have a choice?

We often feel as if being an addict was never a choice, but recovery gives us that back, and more. It is self-directed and empowering. Bit by bit, it opens up a wealth of life choices that we never thought possible.

At The Next Step we view recovery as a process of change and a journey towards freedom, which we do through new experiences. Recovery is transformation, healing and re-definition, leading to a new way of living - a lifestyle of choice.

Let The Next Step help you to recover choice. But you choose recovery... it doesn't choose you.

Addiction, by its own destructive nature, turns us into abusers of self and others, leading to deep unhappiness.

To recover from this seemingly hopeless state of mind and body takes an 'inside job'. This work takes time, it takes support, and we believe it is integral to healthy, long-term recovery. We can't quickly wallpaper over the cracks so all appears well on the outside. Recovery requires rigorous honesty, or untreated root problems will re-surface. Recovery is a journey, a practiced way of living, and ultimately, an authentic lifestyle.
This is why The Next Step exists.

'Just for today I will adjust myself to what is, and not try to adjust everything to my own desires.'

The global weather of late is a beacon-like example of how misguided we are to live with expectations - and that we ultimately have no control over the world we live in.

This is why at The Next Step our recovery programs are about self-discovery and the importance of balance, acceptance and gratitude. We look at that which is within our control. It's not what happens around us, it's what we do with it, how we perceive and respond to it - the 'inside job'. We ultimately do have the power to change if we can stop thinking in black and white, and feeling in blood red, in favour of inner colour balance and harmony. This is about emotional sobriety.

Don't wait for Summer. It may never come. The solution is in the change towards balance which we can help you affect today.

At The Next Step we see recovery from addiction as an 'inside job'. Sure, it’s important to have goals and visions. But first things must be first, and that means taking a good, honest look at ourselves from the inside, out.

That undetectable rubbing pebble - the inner dis-ease which we ignore in favour of the hero story – can have a profound long-term damaging effect on how we feel about ourselves. It can drive us to drinking, using or after periods of abstinence, relapse.

Don't leave that pebble getting deeper under your skin. Let us help make your next recovery step more comfortable. We can start getting you comfy in your own skin today.
