Signing Ceremony for New Grant Phase to Support TB Diagnosis and Treatment in Remote Communities.
Date:6/10/2025.
On 3 October 2025, The Borderland Health Foundation/Shoklo Malaria Research Unit signed a funding agreement with H.E. Mr. Jean-Claude Poimboeuf, Ambassador of France to Thailand, during a ceremony held at the French Residence in Bangkok.
The new phase of support will strengthen our efforts to improve health access for vulnerable communities along the border. This funding is provided by L’Initiative, a mechanism of the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs. It is managed by Expertise France, the French International Technical Cooperation Agency.
Currently, BHF/SMRU is implementing three meaningful projects with the support of L’Initiative:
• Tuberculosis Diagnosis and Treatment: This project delivers essential TB screening, education, and care to remote communities. So far, it has benefited over 10,000 people, and Phase II aims to reach an additional 20,000 individuals.
• Emergency Preparedness and Response: This initiative helps local communities strengthen their ability to respond to crises and emergencies. More than 7,000 people have already benefited from its activities.
• Maternal and Child Health for Migrant Populations: Focused on antenatal care for undocumented migrant women, this initiative has already served over 23,000 mothers and children, with plans to reach 25,000 more in the coming years.
We express our sincere appreciation to the Government of France, L’Initiative, and Expertise France for their continued partnership and trust in our mission to promote health care in border communities.
