Aung is an eight-year-old boy from Tak Province, Thailand.

His family moved to Thailand in 2023 following a severe storm that destroyed their home and escalating armed conflict in their area, forcing the family to flee.

On 15 November 2025, Aung fell from a tree while playing with two friends near his home. His left arm became trapped under his body during the fall.

At Mae Sot Hospital, the doctor discussed the possible treatment costs with Aung’s mother. Due to their financial difficulties, Aung’s mother explained that they had borrowed 10,000 THB already to cover travel costs and medical treatment for her son and told the doctor they could not afford to pay more for treatment.

After requesting help from a medic at MTC, Aung was referred to HFA–BCMF for financial assistance for surgery. With the support of HFA–BCMF, Aung was admitted to MSH and underwent surgery to help his bones heal properly.

Aung said, “Before the surgery, I felt extremely uncomfortable and in serious pain. I was afraid I couldn’t go to school, couldn’t play with my friends, and would miss my class. But now, I am so happy to have received surgery. I hope to recover fully soon, return to school, and play with my friends again.”

Aung’s mother expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the donors and HFA-BCMF, “Thank you so much to HFA-BCMF and the donors for helping with my son’s treatment costs. I cannot express how grateful I am. Without your support, we could not have managed this surgery, and we would have fallen into debt, which would be a great burden on our family. I wish all the donors and the HFA-BCMF team good health, and I hope you can continue helping more people in the future.”

In his free time, Aung enjoys playing outdoor games with his friends. He dreams of becoming a soldier in the future so he can serve his country.

Following foreign development cuts by the USA in January 2025 and the International Rescue Committee's withdrawal from providing healthcare services in 7 of 9 refugee camps, thousands of refugees have been left with no access to affordable healthcare. While Thai government hospitals have tried to fill this gap, financially they face a struggle providing care. We at Health for All Foundation-Burma Children Medical Fund stand with Thai hospitals and work closely with them to fill this gap. Between 2024 and 2025, we assisted over 180 refugees from all refugee camps in Thailand receive necessary surgical care in Thai hospitals. However, more funding is needed to provide adequate care to all refugees, and implement health promotion and prevention projects in the camps.

Tak expects to spend more than 70 million baht a year on medical care and the public health system for three refugee camps housing nearly 50,000 people.

The HFA-BCMF 3D team is in Bangkok, Thailand for Bambu Lab Thailand by 3D Studio's 'LayerUp' event!

Over February 14-15, we're joining fellow 3D printing enthusiasts at this incredible two-day gathering hosted by Bambu Lab, a leading desktop 3D printer manufacturer.

Throughout the weekend, our team has had the opportunity to connect with fellow 3D printing enthusiasts, discuss our prosthetics and orthotics work, and learn practical tips that will help strengthen and improve our project.

Our Director, Ms Kanchana Thornton, also presented on stage, sharing the work of the BCMF 3D project and how 3D printing is being used to support recipients in need of assistive devices.

We're so grateful to Bambu Lab for organising a charity auction with all proceeds benefiting HFA-BCMF.

Thank you, Bambu Lab Thailand by 3D Studio and our friends at Threebees.th for joining us!

If you’re in Bangkok today, 15th February, come and say hello for our final day @ Fortune Event Space, 4th floor, Fortune Town Building, Rama 9. We are here until 7pm.

On 3 February 2026, our wheelchair fitting and distribution team travelled to Ban Rom Klao 2 School in Phop Phra District, Tak Province, Thailand to provide seven adult recipients from nearby communities with wheelchairs.

Four recipients received wheelchairs donated by Free Wheelchair Mission through Rajanagarindra Institute of Child Development (RICD Wheelchair Project ), two recipients received a standard wheelchair donated by RICD and our final recipient received a walker also donated by RICD.

One of the recipients was Kamol, a 65-year-old man living with his mother, son, and granddaughter in Phop Phra District. Ten years ago, due to a herniated disc, Kamol underwent spinal fusion surgery, with rods and screws inserted into his back. Since then, he has relied on a walker or two canes to move around, but due to financial difficulties he was never able to afford a wheelchair. As he fatigues easily, longer distances are difficult, and he often needed someone to carry a chair with him so he could rest along the way.

Kamol was referred to HFA-BCMF through Ban Rom Klao 2 School โรงเรียนบ้านร่มเกล้า 2. During this mission, our team provided him with his first wheelchair donated by Free Wheelchair Mission. He immediately began testing it by wheeling around his front porch. He shared, “I am so happy. Every evening, I plan to go around the village and visit my friends. Before, I had to ask my granddaughter to carry the chair so I could rest while walking. Now I can go by myself.” He added, “Thank you so much for donating this free wheelchair. I would never be able to afford one like this. It is so comfortable and easy to use.”

During the visit, our team also met with the head of Ban Rom Klao 2 School, along with community members, to plan our upcoming eye screening mission scheduled for the last week of February 2026. These discussions help ensure the screenings are accessible and well-coordinated for the community.

Thanks to our donors Free Wheelchair Mission and RICD Wheelchair Project for supplying the wheelchairs and walkers. We’d also like to extend our appreciation to our partner Ban Rom Klao 2 School who helped organise today’s successful mission.

Launched in 2025, the 3D Printed Crutch Tips project began in response to a request from the Mae Tao Clinic ’s physiotherapy department, who requested replacement tips for their patients’ crutches.

The physiotherapy department was noticing a recurring issue, one recipient under HFA-BCMF who relied on crutches would frequently return to MTC asking for replacements because the standard rubber tips wore down quickly, creating a slip hazard and making the crutches unstable. But standard tips come at a cost, something that isn’t affordable for patients or MTC. As the department’s supply of conventional tips rapidly depleted, staff from the physiotherapy department asked if our 3D team could print a more sustainable, cost efficient crutches tip.

The 3D team developed customised crutch tips using TPU filament, a durable and flexible 3D printing material that significantly extends the lifespan of crutches while improving safety and stability for users.

This innovation ensures recipients can use their crutches longer without the constant need for replacements. We have now supplied 103D printed crutch tips to the MTC physiotherapy department, expanding access to this safer, more durable solution.

Thanks to our ongoing collaboration with Brodtbeck Philanthropy Foundation who support our 3D project, our team can continue to build on our innovations every year.

In the final week of January 2026, as part of HFA-BCMF’s Community Health Services Training Project, our team delivered a five-day first aid training course at Ingyin Khit (IGK) Learning Centre in Mae Sot District, Tak Province, Thailand, with 46 migrant school students aged 14-20 and three teachers taking part.

At the end of the training, the school passed a 30-question multiple choice exam and received the first aid training completion certificates. HFA-BCMF staff also handed out 15 first aid kits stocked with 21 items including bandages, fire blankets and wound dressing equipment.

The Thai-Burma border region continues to experience significant challenges due to ongoing conflict and displacement in Burma. Political instability and military operations have forced many families to flee. Migrant schools face limited access to healthcare facilities, with many located in remote areas where medical emergencies can quickly become life-threatening. As conflict increases, there are reports inside Burma of airstrikes targeting schools, causing unsafe conditions at remote schools that don’t have much emergency medicine capacity.

By equipping students with basic first aid skills, this training helps build practical knowledge that can be used both in their schools now and in the future. For students who may one day return to Burma, these skills increase local capacity to respond to injuries and emergencies in communities where medical support is limited.

A huge thank you to our donors and partner Healthilife Foundation for supporting the training sessions.
