Pressure Monitoring: The "Invisible Guardian" of ICU Ventilators
In mechanical ventilation, transpulmonary pressure (Ptp) is the true "commander" of alveoli—defined as the pressure difference between the alveoli and the pleural space (Ptp = Paw - Pes). It directly dictates alveolar recruitment and injury risk. WHY is it critical?
Consequences of Uncontrolled Ptp
1. End-inspiratory Ptp >25 cmH₂O → Alveolar overdistension → Barotrauma!
2. End-expiratory Ptp
